Hello all,

Would there be any interest in having a weekend event in south Kent?

I have been talking to the people at http://www.pestalozzi.org.uk who we are working with on a permaculture garden, and they are keen.

The students return at the end of August so it might be nice to introduce them to the garden and maybe do something interactive like build a clay oven on the Saturday – and make pizza in the evening!

We could then have a PC meeting on the Sunday, or do some gardening or wander around the site and think of great ideas?

They have accommodation (I’m awaiting details on costs, but if we did a session with the students then the cost would be significantly lower).

The site is near Hastings and I was thinking early September might be a good time.

Thoughts on a post card (reply to this email) please

Phill

Phill – I would be very interested in the weekend. I live in Hastings anyway so would not need accommodation. Early September sounds like a good time to me!

This place is a bit quiet.

Just a quick update on my off-grid power.

I just found (second hand from fleabay) a great little inverter – a Victron 3Kw Pure sinewave.

I have also upgraded my batteries (fleabay again), I now have around 6Kw-hours of power available.  They live in a box made from re-cycled cedar fence panels, ½ an old pallet, some (½ old and ½ new) insulation, and some new roof felt.  Had to upgrade the battery – inverter cable from 25mm to 50mm to cope with the new load (but I had that in stock from before).  My workshop does resemble a bit of a substation now with all these massive cables.

Connected it all up last weekend.  I managed to run my workshop all weekend off grid, and I was using some hefty tools, as I was re-working a couple of old “rubber wood” table tops into a new office desk.  Just waiting for the glue to set (the two have become one long table) before I attempt to install it.

With all this wind (and occasional sun) we’re still fully charged.
