Nicholas (the 5.8 pumpking) got in touch with me last night to say that he's
hoping to put out a release candidate for 5.8.9 this weekend, and for that
he'd like the perl589delta file to go with it.
Yikes!
So, at this point I'd like to discover where everyone is at with their work.
Presently I have the following people listed as working, but I either
haven't seen their changes, or I haven't merged them. If you're on this
list, please send me a status update. If you have changes ready to be
merged, please let me know where I can find them (or send them again, if
possible).
If for any reason you're unable to finish your chunk, or unable to finish it
in a timely fashion, then that's okay. Just let me know and I'll make sure
it goes to a good home.
== The please contact me list ==
* Stephen 'Stennie' Steneker: I know you've made progress on 2006-03 and
2006-04, but I can't seem to find the patches or commits.
* Michael Peters: 2006-05
* Adam Flott: I've noticed there are some changes for 2007-02-b in git that
I haven't merged. Are these complete, or are there ones still to come?
Can you confirm you've been working on the 2007-02 branch?
* Martin Ryan: 2007-02-e
* Shawn 'Sartak' Moore: 2007-02-j
* Ben Hengst: 2007-11-c
* Andreas Marienborg: 2007-11-g
* Renee Backer - 2008-06
* Abhijit 'crab' Menon-Sen: I've got you down for 2007-11-f, and I know
that you've worked on it, and we spoke on IRC about handing the rest to
someone else, but I can't find your commits!
== The contact me if you like list ==
* Bradley Dean: I can see you working on 2007-11-a, keep it up, and
let me know when I can merge. I've also got you down for 2007-11-b.
== Available chunks ==
For those of you looking to take on more pieces, we still have some available:
2007-02-f - ==> Nobody <== 6k
2007-11-e - ==> Nobody <== 20k
2007-11-h - ==> Nobody <== 20k
2008-02 - ==> Nodody <== 57k
2008-09 - ==> Nobody <== 31k (and growing!)
As always, the Volunteers.txt[1] remains the definitive source for project
status.
== Kudos ==
If you've worked on the project, and I've merged your changes, then you
should automatically be in the AUTHORS[2] file, as well as being tracked on
ohloh[3]. If you appear incorrectly in the AUTHORS file, or I haven't given
you ohloh kudos, then please let me know.
Exception: Spiros and Lesley, I know that your AUTHORS entries are
malformed. I'll be fixing them before we merge it into Perl's AUTHORS file.
== My availability and administrivia ==
I'll be about all weekend, but I'll be interstate next week. Also, Nicholas
Clark has recently started lurking in the list. If he gives an opinion on
anything 5.8.9 related, he's right.
All the best,
Paul

Also with the AUTHORS file, I would prefer to use my cpan address
(not...@cpan.org) as it's going to be more stable then gmail and it's
also the email that I have attached to my ohloh account. Would you
like me to change that in the file?
Thanks again Paul.

I think Nicholas would like to grab the perl589delta.pod file on Sunday.
Realistically, I know we're not going to have it completed by then, but I'd
love to know what's done and what isn't, if nothing else because it means
the last bits can be done as a sprint if needed.
With that in mind, I'd recommend you push early and often. Since you're
working on a branch, it's not going to cause me any problems.

Nope, because the file gets automatically generated by bin/build-authors[1],
so changing the file means it'll get overwritten the next time I build it. ;)
You're welcome to update the build-authors file if you like. ;)
Cheerio,

I was hammering away at 2007-11-a last night and I think I might be able to
get this done this weekend. I'm certain I wont get 2007-11-b done this
weekend so if there is someone else who can go for it (otherwise I'll get
started on it after 2007-11-a).
Cheerio,
Brad
