Problems Uprrading CPAN

decided to update CPAN. But it seems there are serious issues. Here's
what I saw at the tail-end of the failed upgrade:
Running Build install
Make had returned bad status, install seems impossible
Could not read

Following up . . . looks like META.yml doesn't exist in the directory.

Got this figured out: I needed to reinstall XCode.
