Tufts Technology Services (TTS) is a university-wide service organization

The Senior Application Developer assists in the development of efficient
processes and procedures by performing workflow automation of rote and
semi-complex tasks through scripting and programming. The successful
candidate will identify creative technical solutions to meet business
requirements and will have an eye for solutions that fit into the larger
enterprise IT framework for the Enterprise Systems and Services team. This
position will work regularly in a number of environments and systems to
bring disparate forms of data together to create reports, automation, and
workflow through programming and scripting. Day-to-day tasks and duties
will involve collecting business and technical requirements, scoping
development engagements, generating documentation (written and visual) to
record as-built environments and maintaining progress on initiative-based
service improvements. The majority of work will be initiative or project
based with the successful candidate being able to demonstrate a clear
ability to work under self-direction to achieve initiative goals and
produce results based on communicated deadlines.
Job Requirements
Basic Requirements:
*Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
*Five plus (5+) years of related experience
*Experience with scripting in PowerShell and Perl
*Experience developing tools and programs to efficiently automate /
manage the operation and maintenance of an integrated infrastructure
environment
*Ability to determine root causes of software and service problems and
devise testing methodologies for validation
*Experience investigating and resolving problems involving complex
systems and / or applications
*Ability to identify areas for improvement related to current services
and create solutions to enhance the services provided
*Experience supporting Drupal or WordPress environments
*Experience supporting Apache, Tomcat, Java, and PHP
*Experience working in an enterprise environment running Linux,
Windows, and VMware virtualization
*Experience with Active Directory and LDAP directory structures
*Ability to devise and create test schedules to validate that changes
are of the desired scope and impact. Ability to work either other team
members to collaborate for testing, or work independently in this fashion.
*Ability to create technical documentation including workflow and
logical diagrams to support larger Enterprise Infrastructure team.
*Ability to create and achieve project task items, milestones, and
delivery of a finished product on a timetable.
*Strong interpersonal communication, teamwork and problem solving
skills.
*Proven ability to succeed in a fast, multi-tasked environment.
*An employee in this position must complete all appropriate background
checks at the time of hire, promotion, or transfer.
Preferred Qualifications:
*Knowledge of NetApp Storage
*Knowledge of relational databases
*Experience with web/web form technologies
*Networking knowledge around Cisco routers/switches, Juniper firewalls,
or F5 Load Balancers
*Ease and comfort performing administrative tasks in both a Linux and
Windows environment
*Previous experience in a higher education environment
Special Work Schedule Requirements:
*Occasionally it might be necessary to schedule, facilitate, or perform
off hours work in order to achieve project goals or to observe change
control processes for production environments. Ability to assume on-call
responsibilities is required in support of the infrastructure which is a
24x7 environment.
