hi all,

this may not be important but shutterstock is posting many times with
the same job in different cities but they are all telecommute. it feels
like a way around the restriction on posting the same job too often.
does it really matter that the job is listed in many different cities if
they all telecommute to the office in nyc? any thoughts on this? i know
the main hr person there and i could write to him and ask to stop this
reposting.

thanx,

uri

Hi,

is there no moderator for the jobs list?

That behavior does seem strange considering that the location field is freeform,
its not like they have to specify a city, so I'd wonder why they don't just post
once and day "anywhere in X large area" that they allow. -- Darren Duncan

A remote contractor out of columbus for shutterstock here.

Those are probably cities where they have remote workers already, and they are specifically targeting more.

I know for me, its easier to talk to local peers if it says Columbus in the job description. Whether it's appropriate for this list is another question.

But not a pure recruiter spam tactic. There is some reason behind it.

do they have an office in columbus? the reason i see is just to get more
posts out for the same job listing. there is a rule about not repeating
job posts too often and this skirts the rule. they could list every city
in the country and post dozens of times each day. in this current batch
of posts, they sent in 6 for the same job. not only is it redundant, it
can crowd out other single job postings.

Not yet. We're close. When they get enough people in the same city,
they tend to open an office. (As they did in San Francisco, Denver,
Berlin). There are 3 right now.

They are reasonable people. I'm sure they'll post differently if the
list wants them to. But also, the separate listings aren't without
merit. They are targeting those cities specifically, and they list the
jobs on their site and other job boards the same way.

But seriously, if the consensus is that the list doesn't want them to
do that, I'd be happy to bring it up.

It's a grey area and we do our best to keep it balanced. We don't have rules as much as just "does this seem right?". I agree that those repeated postings maybe were a bit much, but ShutterStock have been posting for a long time and have a good track record of using the site responsibly, as it were.

Most of the noise, in my opinion, are from recruiters in particular in London and New York.

that is ok if they don't overload too often. this was 6 posts at the
same time to different cities.

i gather eligo is the london one but they do post different jobs so that
is ok by me. i haven't tracked if they repost too often.
