I have installed Autocad Architecture 2016 but there was only a shortcut provided for regular vanilla Acad. It seems that all the components for autocad architecture were installed, however i cannot run the application without the appropriate .exe file. Service pack 1 was installed to try to fix the problem to no avail. Why was this not provided during install? This appears to be a chronic problem as i had to do this for previous versions of Acad Arch for several years prior. Please help.
I am not certain why you are not getting the AutoCAD-Architecture-specific shortcuts; the default installation includes them, so unless the settings were modified to not include them, you should have them. Is at least one Profile being created for AutoCAD Architecture, in addition to the AutoCAD profile? Check this on the Options dialog, on the Profile tab, and make note of the profile name(s).
If you have at least one AutoCAD Architecture profile, you can make an AutoCAD Architecture shortcut that starts the program with that profile from a copy of the "as AutoCAD" shortcut. Right click on the copy and choose Properties from the context menu. On the Shortcut tab, change the text in the Target edit box to read like this (based on ACA 2016):
Substitute the name of your AutoCAD Architecture Profile for AutoCAD Architecture (US Imperial) if it differs from that. The en-US language switch setting is based on an English-language installation in the United States; that may or may not be appropriate for you. Note also that the file paths shown for the acad.exe and AecBase.dbx files are based on the standard installation folders and may vary for you.
So, if im reading this right, there is no .exe file for Autocad Architeture? And this AecBase.dbx is the file that create the ACA interface? That doesnt make much sense to me. if i double click acad.exe it just opens vanilla cad. where is the .exe for ACA?
At the very least, the product should be "ACA", not "ACAD". I have not yet installed the shipping version of 2017 (have to clear out some space on my hard drive, and have not had the time). I would expect that
would work, but cannot verify that. Make sure you change both of the references to "2016" in my original post to "2017". This also presumes that you are located in the United States or an area that gets the same content and have installed the US Imperial content. You may need to adjust the text after the /p switch if your localization has differently named profiles or you are using the US Metric profile.
