Subtitle selection with Matroska files, and karaoke issues

I tired searching for this issue, but it wouldn't find anything but a
couple of non-related issues (subtitle returned 4 results, Matroska
only 2).

In Perian 1.1.4 (OSX 10.4.11, G5 Dual 2.5Ghz), I cannot find any way
to change the subtitle stream. It always shows "Off" no matter what
language(s) or how many streams, or what form (srt, ass, ssa, sub,
etc). I currently am trying to watch a show that has hungarian,
romanian, and english subtitles, and it's completely random as to
which is actually displayed... It does always display the subtitles,
but it's equally likely for any to be displayed, and since I do not
read hungarian or romanian, 2/3 of the shows (of which there are, I
believe 155) are not understandable.

Is a fix for this coming up soon?

I have also been trying to watch a few shows where the encoders are
putting in motion coded song lyrics (commonly referred to as karaoke)
in the openings and closings, and this NEVER works, often the
highlights appear in a completely unrelated location, or on a few, the
screen fills with what almost looks like an old style hex-dump, but
clearly isn't hex codes (1 and 2 digit humbers or alpha-numerics --
"m" and "n" are not hex ^_^ ).

Is this also something that will be corrected in a future update?

Sounds like nothing wrong with Perian here. You cannot choose the
subtitle track with Perian. If the different language subtitles are
contained in separate files, remove/rename all the ones you don't need
so Perian will only find one to display. QuickTime's subtitle menu
only displays embedded subtitles it supports.

Otherwise, if all the subtitles are in the same file/s, then I suggest
you just use VLC, which will let you select between all matching
subtitle files it finds.

Karaoke support is scarce in pretty much all players at the moment. If
you really want to put karaoke effects in your videos, I'd suggest you
create a copy of the video with the karaoke hardcoded into the video
itself.

You can adjust these with a player that isn't QTX - for instance cmd-J
in QT 7 Pro.
I really don't think it's appropriate to choose things like that in
the decoder, though getting that subtitles menu to work would be nice.

What are those files named? I thought I'd fixed those in 1.1.4, though
I didn't go looking for samples very hard.
