Does anyone know of a model flight simulator that will work on a linux based laptop and ubuntu or with google chrome? I got fed up with windows and ditched it last year. My old version of Real Flight only worked with windows and probably the same goes for newer versions of Real Flight. Has anyone used a model flight sim on a linux platform or with google chrome?
An RC flight simulator is a computer program that allows pilots of radio-controlled aircraft to practice on a computer, without the risk and expense of damaging a real model. Besides the obvious use of training beginners, they are also used for practising new aerobatics, evaluating a model before buying it, and to allow flight practice when conditions are otherwise unsuitable. Most simulators allow the use of real R/C transmitters to control the sim.
There are a number of commercial packages available, such as Eiperle CGM's neXt - RC Flight Simulator, SVK Systems' ClearView, Knife Edge Software's RealFlight, IPACS' AeroFly and Trasna Technology's AccuRC. There are also a number of free simulators, with FS One being the most well known and most feature rich.
A free RC simulator is nowhere near as realistic as the commercial RC flight simulators.But they are great for a brand new pilot trying to get used to "controlreversal", which is one of the most difficult aspects of learning to fly radio controlled aircraft.
In order to benefit from these free RC simulators, the flightsimulator controls need to be very similar to the transmitter you willbe using at the field. If your transmitter has a trainer port you may be able to purchase an adapter that lets you use your transmitter with thecomputer.
ClearView is a powerful RC flight simulator for radio controlled planes and helicopters. The program provides a number of flying sites and many remote control models.
