Thisupdate which concerns these 2 systems aims to correct the so-called WNRO bug (Week Number Roll Over). To make it simple: a counter to count the weeks in the GPS will arrive at the maximum beginning of April 2019 which will cause malfunctions in the system. This bug already happened the August 21st 1999. Moreover, for once, Renault communicates on the content of the update. This bug will affect the clock, the navigation and the connected services, in short many things!
R-Link 1: it is a big news, because this is the first update to be published outside the R-Link Store. We find exactly the same process as for the R-Link 2: a page (available here) where we enter the serial number of the vehicle to access the download page. The new software version is 11.344.

I have asked Renault dealer to make the update which seemed to have been successful. However, whenever there is no GPS coverage, the r-link 1 reboots. It happened to me at least once every day in the last 3 days. Very annoying!
Ok, thanks. I know the system turns off after a while if i just press the power button on it without hitting the engine start button, but will it also turn off automatically if i press the start button without actually running the engine (ignition key position 2)?
Hello, before switch off the engine, did you remove SD card and USB stick? After that switch off and start the engine. If not enaugh, close the vehicle and wait 30 min. If not enaugh, go to your dealer.
Hi,
Hoping someone can help me as Ive run out of places to look.
Bought a Koleos last week, sd card in it has maps v930 (may 2014), pretty bad impression to start with.
So after reading manuals, and trying their
myrenault.com as suggested to update, that site has no help or instructions either.
Next step googled and found need
au.rlinkstore.com and proceeded to create account etc. Then downloaded rlink toolbox as it said.
It told me i have two mandatory updates and one map update v950 (at least its 2015)!
After many failed attempts i finally got it to download the mandatory updates and installed in car.
After many failed attempts i cannot for the life of me get the map update. I can get it as far as downloading, done 100%, then says buys, then says "something went wrong during download of your content, contact customer service). This was since late friday, so cant do that until tomorrow.
Not sure where to start mate. I had some similar issues trying to find out the right information around these updates, but once I signed up to the au.rlinkstore and downloaded the tool box everything has worked. One update did fail, but worked on the second attempt.
Thanks for the reply, still trying but no good.
First i was told to contact uk support, which i did. helpful but not solving problem. He also said the dealer should have provided me with 12 months live subscription.
Have 30 days to get updated map, but have 2 weeks left :(
Then melbourne got in contact, saying i have to buy the live services ($124 approx per year), the dealer not in a position to provide that they say. Rlink still under review in australia apparantely, not fully supported!
With rlink toolbox, i clear cache, try different methods of download like no backup etc, same problem, all goes well until it has to write to card. have tried two different comps, win 10 and win 7. not having a ball atm thats for sure.
I think when I picked up the car, the sales guy sent off the activation request then and told me to update the maps within 30days or something to activate it all. When I found the details for the RLinkAU store I signed up ensuring I used the correct VIN for the car, downloaded the RLink Toolbox and got the updates down. That said I did have a few issues initially but it all worked, eventually.
The services were active in my car before this though. The map updates are meaningless if the service isn't activated, so I would be trying to get to the bottom of this, then hopefully the updates will install OK.
I haven't had to buy anything yet and one would definitely expect to get a year free included with the car. Then my understanding was you would have to pay for any subsequent updates (rather than for the whole service), but will wait and see what happens I guess.
Thanks for the replies guys, still going in circles, case been escalated apparently, between uk and au rlink specialist. Got my draft letter ready for the ACCC! As I don't hold out much hope of a solution.
Renault AU scratched their heads and referred me to a tech support in the UK, he was helpful but was a middle man, apparently the system was reset and it started working... for a few days and then failed. After I chased again I got an email from Renault UK, content below:
"On the behalf of Renault I deeply apologise for the faulty connection you have been experiencing. I realise and appreciate your full patience and cooperation, and I am sorry that our product was not up to its usual standards on this occasion.
For this reason I have consulted with a top technical manager at Renault and can assure you that the issue lies with the networking itself. You would be wasting time and money in changing the head unit.
I am now thinking after continued lack of answers from AU support that we should be forming a group to take Renault AU to task and get resolution and/or compensation... the radio system is only a small part of the overall car but was one of the features I especially wanted
Ooh and the latest mandatory update kills the voice activation, so can't even use that now. I'd a know issue with them, but they say a fix probably not until early next year lol. I'm not really laughing!
The R-Link connected services is not a feature that Renault Australia promotes in either their Product Brochure or website. The availability of LIVE services and some R-Link apps will vary depending on the country and they have never been officially launched in Australia. It has only ever been in a testing stage for Renault and if you were able to connect during this time then you have been very fortunate.
The Telstra 2G network is closing on December 1 2016 and because of this a decision has been made at a factory level that any new or existing subscriptions on Renault vehicles can no longer be connected. This came into effect from July 2016 and is the reason why there is now nowhere to re-purchase or renew.
I picked up a new Megane in Melbourne last week. Love it but have several issues clearly related to problems mentioned within this thread. Specifically the below:
- R-Link App Store, System Update and Live Traffic all disconnected, no way to connect.
- No Australian Map updates available on R-Link store (no maps of any kind available), mine are currently 2014/12.
- In R-Link Store, my Digital Service, Discovery Services and TomTom Traffic are all still awaiting activation.
- I have European Map Updates for 3 Years, helpfully I'm in Australia.
Also, interestingly, has anybody else seen this:
According to Groupe Renault, all new Renaults from April will come with Apple Carplay and Android Auto. This is nice, but disappoints given I just bought a new Megane. As it has the R-Link2 system already, I'm hoping it will be a simple software/firmware update to upgrade. Otherwise, I'll be pushing for a change of Head Unit.

I just bought a new Renault Koleos Zen last week (Nov 2017 build), it has R-Link 2. The update instructions are pretty sparse but I eventually got there, only to find there is precious little content in the Australian r-link store. Not happy, because apps were reportedly a BIG feature of r-link 2 during sales, but there's nothing meaningful to me. Anyway, I got it working with Android auto installed on my Google Pixel 2 XL phone via USB cable. Sort of working that is, because it drops out and that makes it hard to use. I did get google maps on screen until the phone disconnected from r-link. Haven't figured out whether its the cable or the system yet. Anyway, when you have Android Auto installed in the phone and connect the phone via USB to the car, the Home menu on the r-link screen shows a middle button to invoke the Android Auto on board. From there you can use the google auto features like google maps and google voice etc.
Hi Mikeinnc, can I ask which dealership you bought your Megan from? I too purchased one in mid-December2018 from the dealership South of the river. It doesn't connect or allow voice control for sat nav, and the dealership don't know what's wrong. Mine is an ex Renault Australia car so one would have thought things should work. I have downloaded the update from the rlink store.
I just bought a Koleos Intens 2016 series 2 R Link 2 software 3.3.15.406 tried the toolbox to update the maps got a ne one downloaded but when I place usb key 16gig in it comes up with checksum error....Then tried 16 gig sd card and re downloaded and still no joy same thing checksum error...
Renault didn't do this too well. I have Koleos Zen 2018. Complained to all and sundry that the new car had 18 months old maps. No service guy helped at all. Horrendous. I looked via toolbox thing and think that I had UK language (liked the voice) and this offered me Euro price on maps. I was not going to pay for update. I changed to Aus voice language and maybe that helped eventually 8 months later found I had free maps for THREE years from purchase ! No word from Renault but discovered online myself.
I have updated twice now. Still glitchy. Last update seemed to work but when I put usb in it says still update there to download? Also my voice activation has stopped working. Another weird thing my preset radio stations have disappeared at least 4 times. This techo stuff in cars is wonderful WHILE it works !
