I'm new to all this but receintly aquired a mint mg16/6fx for 240.00 which seemed like a good deal. I have a pretty good idea on how to use it and have a few power amps and monitors. I plan on using it in some small applications and would like to run 2 monitors. Can you point me in the right direction?

just come out of your aux 1 and aux 2 1/4" sends.. one goes into the 1st channel of the amp and the other goes into the 2nd channel of the amps inputs. plug the speaker wires into the amp on seperate channels-dont jump the monitors.. then turn up the aux send 1 knob on whatever channel your using to send that channels sound to the 1st monitor. the same for the 2nd using the aux send 2 knobs.. i recomend an eq with 31 bands on each send in between the board and the amps tho

This means that regardless of the level you set your channel fader to for the final mix, the aux 1 send will remain at the level that you set with the aux 1 pot. Aux 2 is switchable between pre and post fader. If you're going to run two separate foldback monitor mixes, you will need to push the "Pre" button on Aux 2 for each channel and then run that monitor mix to a channel on your power amp.

Depending on the size of your group / band / etc, you may need only one monitor send. I play in a jazz quintet and we use my little Yamaha MG12/4 mixer for just vocals and keys. It has only one pre-switchable aux send. The other is post for effects.

So it's very possible for you to use aux 1 only and only one channel of your power amp if that suits your needs. Although it's been suggested that you don't "jump the monitors", there is no problem with running two separate floor monitor speakers (or more) off of one channel providing that the total impedance of all connected speakers does not fall below the min ohm requirements of the amp.

As that mixer has a dedicated internal EFX send knob, you have the flexibility to run just one monitor mix off the aux 1 or two separate monitor mixes using aux 1 and aux 2 provided that it is switched to "pre".

i have the mg16/6 fx and mainly use it for my gigging setup (acoustic duo playing pubs and both singing) for this it is pretty good and sounds nice enough to my ears...for recording through the sound can get quite dense, if thats what you like...personally i reckon it gives a nice lo-fi kind of sound which may have its place in your recordings...having said that it is possible to get a clean sound out of it...i havent really tried it through my digi002r yet tho...still sussing out how it all fits together...id stay away from behringer tho...dont have heaps of trust in it..
Hey kurt- by the by, wats your opinion on DI'ing acoustic guitars as well as micing them (say a stereo pair of condensors, 1 dynamic and the DI) and blending the sounds? Just curious- did it a bit when I didnt have 4 mics (i still only have 4 argh being a uni student aint all its cracked up to be) and found the sound a lil different...thoughts?>
Cheers mate,
