HiI have recently installed Ubuntu 20.04 but now I am not able to get print out from my Canon Pixma G1010 USB printer. I couldn't find the driver setup for G1010 in Ubuntu 20.04. Can someone please help me to install the driver for G1010 in Ubuntu 20.04.

You will likely find a working driver for any Canon printer by installing the cups-backend-bjnp package. To install this packager, you can use Synaptic Package Manger (install it from Ubuntu software centre if needed). Open Synaptic, search for cups-backend-bjnp, mark it for installation and apply. Then you will find the drivers for your printer (or a similar working one) by selecting Canon in the Manufacturer section.

I tested the following procedure to install scangear and printer drivers for the Canon MG3600 and it worked for me on an Ubuntu 22.04.2 LTS (jammy). This guy maintains a repository for a long list of Canon drivers. See below from his website.

A list of available printers will be listed. A sample list for adding a Canon MB5300 via network connection is shown below. Use your own list that appears in your terminal for the lpadmin command shown below making sure you use the correct name, .ppd file, and serial for your printer.

Printer Driver:

Some of the settings (such as borderless printing) in the OS standard print settings screen are not valid. the settings in the Printer printing Preferences window are valid. Make settings in Printer printing Preferences when necessary.

2.[Windows 10/11]

Layout printing from the OS standard print settings screen may not be performed as expected in Some instances.

In such cases, open the Printer Printing Preferences window and change the paper size accordingly.

3.With Internet Explorer 11, a web site containing Japanese may not be printed properly. In Windows Update, update the OS and Internet Explorer to the latest version.

Is there any possible way I can ever use Pixma G1010 on BigSur? I have read of printer sharing, is there any other way? I have seen "dummy" G1010 drivers in the internet only to find it is for G1000 series after installation and it is getting a bit frustrating.

Canon Asias does not even offer any drivers except for WIndows for the G1010. Canon North America (USA) is not finding the PIXMA G1010 model at all. Time to give it away, and find something that is supported in Apple's built-in networked AirPrint functionality. AirPrint support means you will no longer be dependent on the printer vendor for driver support.

I have a canon Pixma g1010 printer that works perfectly with Windows10. I have a Macbook pro 2018 15" with MaOS Catalina 10.15.6. I connect the printer with a USB adapter and the printer is recognised.

I installed the driver package from the Canon site, added the printer and the printer status shows Idle, Default printer. When I gave a print command, the queue displayed printing and the printer led started to slowly blink and kept blinking. Then I got an error (sometimes 306 sometimes 311) and nothing.

The support page for that printer specifically disclaims MacOS support. That generally means the image generation (rasterizing) is done on the Windows computer, and the maker has decided not to offer a Mac compatible rasterizer.

At least according to the specifications at -g1010/specification, Mac is not supported fr this very printer model. You mentioned a driver package; which one? There are Mac drivers (for example) for a G1000, but whether these can be used at all in this case is another question.

Thats exactly what I am trying now. Installed virtual box. Now trying to setup a shared folder. The printer however is not being detected by the Virtual Windows. So trying to figure that out. But its ironic that I have to fall back on windows on an Apple device to get something working.

I have to setup a shared folder between MacOS and Virtual Windows. Install G1010 driver on Virtual windows. Get it to detect the printer. For printing - I shall have to convert all docs to PDF for printing else I shall have to load Office/or some other S/w for that.

Thanks. That is the next step.. Buying a new Mac compatible printer is not an option. It just takes up a lot of time to get all this going!!! Wish Apple could be more flexible or Cannon would make compatible drivers for Linux and windows. I m trying to get it setup through Ubuntu as well on Virtual box. Lets see which approach works.

Just an update. Finally managed to get the virtual machine Virtual Box Installed alongwith Windows 10. Downloaded the usb3.0 extension from VirtualBox.org. Printer detected in Guest OS and printout successful - Finally.

In information section it is said this driver is for all OS including windows 7 & 11, the driver works on my w11 machine but when I run the setup on w7 machine I get the error as "This file is not supported by this operating system". Driver DVD also gives the same error further there's no any other drivers present in the website.
