Is the metadata event 'thread_sort_index' supported?

Hi, in our system we generate TraceEvent compliant JSON files then view them using chrome://tracing. We display the threads in a certain order using the metadata event 'thread_sort_index', but while it works in the current chrome://tracing it seems to have no effect in Perfetto. Other events (such as process_name and thread_name) work fine. Is this event supported?

Hi Itay,

No this feature is not supported nor is there any plans to support this within trace processor or the Perfetto UI.

Hi Itay,

No, that event is not supported and likely will stay such.

Over time people came up with more complex sorting requirements (see track_decider.ts) that made that unnecessary.

At some point we'll have some options in the UI to provide custom sorting rules. But for now there is no good option sorry.
