Hi,

I am upgrading percona-server 5.5.35 to 5.6.16 on ubuntu 12.0.4.

mysql_upgrade script is not recognizing skip-secure-auth option

#mysql_upgrade
#mysql_upgrade: unknown option '--skip-secure-auth'

i have given below option to my.cnf:

[client]
socket          = /var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock
skip-secure-auth

Is that bug or i am doing something wrong.

But upgrade was failing so i was doing manual upgrade.

Can anyone help on this.

due to upgrade fail i am getting below error:

ERROR 2049 (HY000): Connection using old (pre-4.1.1) authentication protocol refused (client option 'secure_auth' enabled)

Hi--

[skip]_secure_auth is both a server-level option *AND* a client one.
Try putting "skip_secure_auth" in the [mysqld] section of your my.cnf,
then restart and run mysql_upgrade. Basically, it sounds like the issue
is that your server has secure_auth enabled (this is by default) and
you're trying to connect from a client with skip_secure_auth.

Then, if you're able to get that bit sorted out, go through your
mysql.user table and check for any passwords that are still using the
pre-4.1 old-style hash algorithm (they will be 15-16 characters long as
opposed to 40), and change them.

For more information, see:

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.6/en/server-options.html#option_mysqld_secure-auth

and

http://mysqlblog.fivefarmers.com/2012/05/30/why-your-pre-4-1-client-wont-like-mysql-5-6/

Hope that helps--

Thanks for your reply.

I already put that variable under [mysqld] and its working fine for server.

But the problem here is only mysql_upgrade is not recognizing "skip_secure_auth".

While i am able to connect to server using mysql client with "skip_secure_auth"  option under [client].

Hm, sounds like you might be seeing this, then;

http://bugs.mysql.com/bug.php?id=69051

Appears to have been fixed in community 5.6.17, although I notice that
mysql_upgrade is specifically not mentioned in the last couple of
comments. You might try grabbing a copy of mysql_upgrade from the
latest 5.6.17 release and giving that a shot.
