Hello fellow Sea Percher’s! Our Sea Perch staff has been hard at work
putting together a new project website.
Please take a few minutes to look it over and see all the new
offerings:
http://seaperch.mit.edu
Highlights of new material:
- New Sensor Packs – we are developing a new sensor pack for
you to build and use to collect water quality data. The idea for this
is something that is low cost, compact, logs data and can be
downloaded to your computer.
- New Mapping feature. We have a new GIS bases mapping
program that allows you to upload your water quality data and view/
compare other data to yours. This is a great tool we are hoping
everyone uses to collect long term nearshore water quality data. Once
we have a consistent flow of data, we are going to be publicizing this
tool to scientists so they can use the data for their research.
- Video clips on building steps
- HACK your Perch – an area where your students can get
involved and share with us their “hacks” – anything from painting,
props, grabber arms, sensors, you name it, we want to see it!!
- Linking to MIT’s Open CourseWare – under Curriculum/
University – we have materials that can be used by anyone – featuring
great professors here at MIT
- A new section that is geared toward students that want to
know how things work – LEARN tab – describes things such as
microcontrollers to relays.
- And a very cool Science Careers section – that breaks down
the steps of constructing a Sea Perch and linking that with a real
profession.
We welcome all feedback on the site. We have built this for you to
use, so please help us make it the best we can!
Best,
brandy
