Hi. I'd love to hear any recommendations for a underwater video
camera system that I could use on my Sea Perch.

required specs:
- inexpensive
- waterproof to at least 80 feet
- video out for recording
- lighting (infrared or other)
- not too heavy

desired specs:
- color
- pan
- additional depth

I could either buy an off-the-shelf system like something from
Cabellas, or make-my-own by potting a normal camera.

Any advice is welcome,

Matt

Hey Matt,
Check out the list of links on the bottom of our hack page, http://seaperch.mit.edu/hack.php
I've also had good luck searching "underwater camera" at cabellas.com or bassproshop.com
Let me know if you have any more questions, or if those resources don't get you what you're looking for.
Cheers
Sarah

Hey Sarah. Thanks for the quick reply. I'd been worried about the
Cabelas offerings since the reviews were worrisome. I wondered about
the possibilities of doing it myself using baluns and some board
cameras:

I like that option since it's color, expandable (can improve the
housing or camera as needed) and the portable television could be used
for other things.

Using the Video Baluns unlimited option, it'd allow for the Sea
Perch's extra ethernet wires to be used to manage video:

If anyone has experience going that route, or have any links, I'd be
curious to hear war stories.
