Ihave an EliteBook 8560w with a Windows 7 operating system. I purchased it in August of this year. Today, after turning on the computer, the computer shut off and restarted before loading completely. After logging back on (my computer is password protected) it took me to a "Windows resume loader" screen. The screen read: "The last attempt to resume the system from it's previous location failed. Attempt to resume again?" I am then given two options:

Choosing option (1) only repeats the earlier cycle and brings me back to the same screen. As I am entering finals week and I have many projects on this laptop, I am extremely leary of choosing an option that involves "deleting".

It sounds as if the laptop was in Hibernation rather than shut down before this happened. Deleting the restoration data refers to things you may have had open and was saved to memory before hibernating. Deleting it and trying to resume boot 'shouldn't' have any effect on your data, programs, etc.

Sometimes I get calls from the helpdesk staff asking about the Windows Resume Loader issue. It happens with Windows 7 or Vista OS computers during the startup process when the black Resume Loader screen appears with the following message:

HP probook 4520s stuck on resume loader page . Followed the advice given to @peri . On startup , pressing delete , F1 , F2 , F5 or F12 key nothing goes into bios . Still the resume loader page . Any advice without opening the laptop ??

Hello Thom, i m in a similar mess. My wife spilled some oil unto my laptop keyboard and it got fried. So i could barely use the pc to get to the internet using my stored favorites. I also was using an extenal mouse. Today i had power failure and i can t start up my pc again because i get stocked up because i cant use the keyboard to select whatsoever.

I want to try removing the cmos battery and so i would like to know if that will still entail me having to use the keyboard in the subsequent steps in setting up date time etc?

Would connecting a new wireless usb keyboard directly in this state be helpful? I ve tried draining the capacitors etc but to no avail. Please anyone can help too.

Thank you for posting this!

After choosing the first option, I got the resuming windows screen for a moment, then a black screen with a white cursor. I left the computer alone for about 10 minutes. Slowly, my keyboard lights came on, then my mouse pointer showed up (on the black screen still) then eventually my desktop and everything came up.

Just wanted to share that! You may want to give it some time before trying other things. We always expect instant results but need to be patient. ?

Thanks again.

Your solution is very useful to me. What is my problem clearly telling in your website every line. I really like it. Thank you so much Sir/Madam. Please send more system repair information to my email id.

Hi, I used your tip for resuming system data, worked perfectly. About the info for idle keyboard, could that happen with my mouse? I am finding my mouse freezes after a couple of minutes of coming out of hibernation mode. Only way to get it going is to restart pc, then it works ok till after hibernation again. I was wondering if it may be getting disabled like your keyboard and if It could be reactivated in the BIOS.

Hello, Sosa. As many folks posted other remedies in comments section to solve this problem, I suggest scrolling through the comments. It seems, that I will have to update my post with yet additional steps.

After my post I walked away I came back and there was a window in the middle of my screen with the title Wireless Configuration. And then it says notification dll has not been registered program will not work correctly. Ugh.

If you need to extract your old data, then no problem. Just need to use the SATA drive to USB adapter. Plug it in your old drive and plug this drive into USB of your computer. Then you will be able to browse this disk, as if it were your internal hard drive.

I have an HP Pavilion dv2615nr entertainment notebook pc. At start up my computer goes to a black screen that says at the top windows resume loader and that the last attempt to resume the system from its previous location failed.attempt to resume again. It says to use the arrows to highlight my choice and the choices are..

Your screen is not frozen You are in a Pre-Windows environment that does not have a graphical user interface (GUI) or give mouse support. Use the arrow keys to move the highlight up and down if that options are present. If you would like to "continue with system resume" move the highlight over it with the arrow keys, then hit enter. If you would like to "delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu" when it is highlighted hit enter.

I would select continue with system resume using the arrow key, then hit enter. You were trying to do a system restore for some reason and it failed to restore. If it fails to restore again you will still have the other option. Why are you trying to do a system restore?

It wont let me use the arrows to highlight anything it goes straight to that screen as soon as I start up the computer.I wasnt trying to restore anything.I went to get on the computer and when I started it up it went to that screen and now I am stuck on it and I cant get it off of it.I have tryed to turn it off and restart and i have taken out the battery and held the on off button for 15 seconds and tryied to restart it again and it goes right back to that screen when I turn it on.I dont no why my arrow keys wont highlight it just seem like it froze to that screen.

What is your Operating system? I've seen this problem mainly with Vista. As your system is booting keep hitting F8. This should bring up the boot menu. From the boot menu choose last known good configuration.

summer freeman, the resume loader is what is used when your computer returns from hibernation. On boot-up your system checks checks whether your computer was hibernated or not. If it was, winresume.exe loads and attempts to mount the hiberfil.sys file

Hiberfil.sys contains the information that was stored in memory at the time the computer hibernated. So, if your hiberfil.sys is corrupted, your computer will freeze. You can try rebooting and using F8 to get to the boot mode screen and boot in safe mode first or last good known configuration and see if that makes a difference. The other thing you can try is to get into your computer BIOS at start-up and set it to the default options and see if that makes a difference. If you have no success with this, I would consider a repair of the Operating System but you will have to have the OS CD's. Good Luck and I hope this helps.

I had the same problem, it arose at the most inappropriate moment when I had to finish writing a term paper. I didn't immediately understand what the problem was, so I had to use my mobile phone and order my paper at term paper writing service.

When you select the Delete restoration data and proceed to system boot menu option, the Hiberfil.sys file is deleted. Therefore, all information about the operating system state that is stored in the hibernation file is lost. This information includes any unsaved data.

If the computer boots into Ubuntu automatically without showing the GRUB menu at all, sometimes you can press the manufacturer's BIOS/UEFI key at boot time and while in UEFI or BIOS mode from the firmware menus select the operating system you need. Common keys used are Esc, Delete, F1, F2, F10, F11, or F12. On tablets, common buttons are Volume up or Volume down. During startup, there's often a screen that mentions the key. If there's not one, or if the screen goes by too fast to see it, check your manufacturer's website.*

If this doesn't work when the GRUB menu does not appear at boot time, immediately after the motherboard / computer manufacturer logo splash screen appears when the computer is booting, with BIOS, quickly press and hold the Shift key, which will bring up a GNU GRUB menu screen. With UEFI press (perhaps several times) the Esc key to get to the GNU GRUB menu screen. Sometimes the manufacturer's splash screen is a part of the Windows bootloader, so when you power up the machine it goes straight to the GNU GRUB menu screen, and then pressing Shift is unnecessary.

Open the Boot Repair application and select Advanced Options -> Other Options tab -> Repair Windows boot files. The boot flag should be placed on the same partition on which Ubuntu is installed. The partition on which Ubuntu is installed can be identified from the Disks application which is built-in in Ubuntu.

Rescatux is a free bootable live CD/USB that can repair GRUB and the Windows bootloader. Rescatux has a graphical interface with a menu of operating system rescue tasks. If your hard disk has the MBR partitioning format, you can select the Restore Windows MBR (BETA) option to repair the Windows bootloader. If your computer has UEFI firmware, you can select among the UEFI boot options.

Insert a USB flash drive and check if the boot flag has been enabled on the flash drive using the GParted application. Unmount the USB flash drive. Open GParted and select the USB flash drive from the menu list of drives. From the GParted menu select: Partition -> Manage Flags -> check boot.

It is very important to verify that the device that you are installing the Rescatux live USB to is indeed your flash drive, so that you don't overwrite any of your system or personal files which may make your operating system unbootable. In Ubuntu you can find the device name of the flash drive using the Disks application.

On the pinned apps section on the left side of the Start menu, locate the Settings app. It's typically represented by a gear icon. Click the Settings app to open the Windows Settings app. You can also select the Settings app from the app list. Under Settings, click Update & Security to continue.

At this point, you have two options. You can either choose to keep your personal files and only remove downloaded apps and settings, or you can wipe everything and start from scratch. Each choice will also give you an additional setting to change.
