This effort is about everyone...everyone who wants to participate and
find a role in the 250th Celebration of the City.

The intent of People's Pittsburgh is to create a framework of events,
media and communication tools, as well as perpetual changes in how we
tell our story, in what stories are told, as well as those we honor
and uphold in the telling of our tale.

This is a opportunity for all - equally - to engage in this work
together.

Start in July, or join in August, September or October...just join in
at some point.

very glad to see this happening..
unfortunately wont be in town on july 23..
so i am going to throw a couple of thoughts now....

a number of folks from the region have been attempting to drum up
interest in having pittsburgh sponsor the 2nd international steel
cities conference during 2008. we all were able to attend the first
international steel cities conference held in june of 2006 in
sheffield england and came away impressed with the links binding these
cities/regions together across history and geography. these links
mean that there are many more people out in the developing and the
redeveloping world who would appreciate and share pittsburgh's story
then you might imagine. pittsburgh's story belongs to a much larger
world then just the folks living here. it truly transcends time and
place.
and its not just our story, its the future we are forging that we
share. we have lots to learn from other places and they from us...

but we (like the other steel cities) have tended to be very inward
looking, feeling that no one elsewhere will care- so we dont make the
link. but there are people who do and will care. how might we
globalize peoples pittsburgh, its story and its future?
