"DRED just made - along with Ellen DeGeneres and Wanda Sykes - Go Magazine's "100 Women We Love - Class of 2009" list, and DRED was also awarded a Spirit Award at OUTmusic awards year for her 14 years of dedicated service. Cheryl Burke writes, "Mildred Dred Gerestant aka DRED performs a particularly mystical form of gender-illusioning, and one woMan show.. Her act is less a typical impersonation and more a challenge to societal ideas of what it means to be male or female, while reminding the audience that there's some of each in everyone. It's no surprise that DRED's motto is " Love all of who you are...." The DRED Love experience is a poetic, funky, fly, supernatural-high, comedic, thought-provoking and musical performance on gender-fluidity, and freedom of expression. She will be performing her one woMan show "When She Was King" for the last time on July 24th.  Her workshops are geared for everyone from domestic violence survivors to police officers to children

About the film:

A documentary exploring the perception of the Island of Jamaica as harboring homophobic attitudes towards individuals with different sexual orientations. The film provides Jamaican people with a broad range of perspectives – pro, con and in-between – an opportunity to share their views on this controversial issue. Taboo: Yardies gives a voice to Jamaicans daring to speak out about intolerance and violence directed towards the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community – most notably, human rights.  It also aims to provide viewers an opportunity to decide for themselves whether the view of Jamaica as a homophobic culture is accurate. More importantly, it is hoped the film spurs an honest, open conversation discussing respect and tolerance for all people.
