Dear all

I hope you have been keeping well during this challenging year…  Here are a few updates to close 2021 on some bright notes:

  1. The HWIWG have been discussing future directions for the group with Axel Moehrenschlager, Chair of the IUCN/SSC-CTSG.  The conversations have been very productive and we would like to invite new IUCN colleagues to join our core group and take an active part in planning our strategy for the next 2 years (2022-24).  Please get in touch if you are interested and want to know more.  Your taking part is essential to keep the group running and our contribution dynamic!
  2. Next week the SCB's 30th International Congress for Conservation Biology (ICCB 2021) will take place 12-16 December 2021 in Kigali, Rwanda, and online. On Tuesday the 15th of December from 3-4.30pm (UK time) our groups will be running workshop 38: Facilitating Human-Wildlife Interactions in Conservation Translocations.  More about the ICCB and registration for the event on the ICCB site.  Please join us for the workshop if you have a chance.  More details attached.
  3. During 2021 we have been working on guidance for considering Human-Wildlife Interactions from the planning to the exit stage of a project.  It aims to support the Conservation Translocation community and complement the IUCN Reintroduction Guidelines (2013). The ICCB Workshop will be based on our manuscript "Guidelines to facilitate Human-Wildlife Interactions in Conservation Translocations" submitted to Frontiers in Conservation Science.  We will continue to work on the guidance to produce a more comprehensive document for the CTSG.
  4. The Special issue of the Frontiers in Conservation Sciences, Animal Section "Human Dimensions of Animal Translocations" is going well, with contributions from many of you, from across the globe.  We expect to have a high quality, inspiring publication coming out during the Spring of 2022.
  5. Our website is up and running!!!  Here is the link, so please visit for information and resources https://iucn-ctsg-hwi.wixsite.com/workinggroup

You may also join us at https://www.facebook.com/IUCN-CTSG Human-Wildlife Interactions to share news, events, your opinion, notes of interest and photos!  Group resources can also be found in Researchgate https://www.researchgate.net/project/IUCN-SSC-RSG-Human-and-Wildlife-Interaction

If you are new to the group or have questions, suggestions or would like to contact us, please send an email to adriana.con...@canterbury.ac.uk, and I’ll be happy to respond.

I look forward to hearing from new prospective member to join our core group!

Very best wishes
