Can I use Mondrian OLAP Server with MongoDB?

Currently, no. Mondrian can only talk to systems that have an SQL interface.

But I am working on an SPI that will allow Mondrian to talk to non-SQL data sources. The idea is that people could write plug-ins that allow Mondrian to get cells and/or members from various systems. We will be targeting initially HBase but implementations for MongoDB and Cassandra would also make a lot of sense.

We also expect people to build hybrid systems, with source data in a NoSQL system or Hadoop and aggregate tables & small/medium dimensions in an RDBMS.

Let me be clear that this is a long term project. But I wanted to let you know that we are thinking about these things, and starting to work on them. There is a huge potential to do BI on NoSQL/Hadoop systems, and quite a lot of demand, and we think that Mondrian has a lot to offer.

If someone wants to put some effort into a "Mondrian on MongoDB" or "Mondrian on HBase" project, I could maybe get some resources from Pentaho and deliver something faster.

Is it a good idea?

Can I replace my PostgreSQL Datawarehouse for MongoDB?

Is it faster than Star Schema + PostgreSQL?

We don't know the answer to these questions yet. But we don't know til we try.

This year I want to go to Amsterdam to see all the Pentaho Folks, I went to Barcelona in 2009, long time ago and it is time to maybe go again.

Come join us. The meetups are always a lot of fun, more people every year, same great quality presentations, and the key people are always there.

If you guys have time see what we did here in Brazil with:

- Brazil Open Data (Obras do PAC Brazil Public Data Source)
- Pentaho BI Server 4.5 CE
- Mondrian
- Saiku 2.3
- Google Maps
- Android
- JavaScript
- HTML
- jQuery
- HighCharts

An a really small Amazon AWS Instance, sorry about the performance we did not put a good AWS Instance for this project.

I watched the video. My portuguese isn't too great, but it like a great project. Thanks for sharing.
