I'm afraid it's not a viable long-term solution. Waterfox, Palemoon
and other replacements will always lag behind Firefox and without
serious corporate backup and large user base they may stop working any
day.
I gave Tridactyl another try today and here are my impressions:
- letters are used instead of digits in hints. It seemed strange at
first but after a little while I liked it and got used to it
- one needs yy instead of single y to copy address to clipboard
- there is yet no status line on the bottom of the screen
https://github.com/tridactyl/tridactyl/issues/210. One has to press
yy to find out address of the current page
- C-[ doesn't work yet
https://github.com/tridactyl/tridactyl/issues/968
- there are several built-in search engines such as google or
wikipedia available after `open' but completion doesn't work so for
example one needs to press `o' to invoke `open' and then manually
type `wikipedia' followed by the search phrase
- google search suggestions are not shown
- C-w shortcut doesn't work yet and it's always intercepted by Firefox
and cannot be overwritten. There is some hope though
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1303384
- one needs `set csp clobber' in order to able to use Tridactyl on
some pages, for example
https://gist.githubusercontent.com/osleg/e95cbe9219a84a1d73cb0bf9480ec70f/raw/3eb159d8846fab0ae53fbaddd7489f2d6e0088ab/userChrome.css
- it seems that Tridactyl cannot access Firefox history as completions
do not show up in `open' and `tabopen' commands
- I like the greenmat theme
