Touse a cheat code in most versions of Hexen, one simply types the code while playing (this also applies while in automap mode). After the last letter has been entered, a message of acknowledgement will appear at the top of the screen. The status bar and ingame view may also change, depending on the effects of the code. All of the codes for the original game work in all source ports, unless otherwise noted.

All cheat codes are disabled in multiplayer games, except for the kills code which will enable a display on the automap screen that shows the frag counts for all players in a deathmatch game. Most cheats are also disabled in single-player games on the Titan/Pope/Archimage (level 5) skill level; however, some cheats (such as mapsco) are not disabled when entering this difficulty level.

Two (or more) cheat codes with overlapping letters can be activated without typing the overlapping part(s) twice. A useful example is satan and nra which can both be activated by typing satanra for both god mode and full weapons/ammo in the full version. Another example is sherlocksmith to activate both sherlock and locksmith (all puzzle items and all keys).

At the core of the seven-portal hub there are three stairs that must be raised. After you raise the first flight of stairs, walk halfway up them. You will see the other two platforms that the other two staircases lead to. If you try hard enough, you can actually jump to the smaller ledge, skipping a part of the hub!

Until recently I was under the impression that Freedoom does not have its own cheat codes because they could only be implemented with a custom executable. However, not log ago andrewj told me that cheat codes can be changed using the BEX format. (I haven't found any reference on how to do this so far though.)

If it is ever decided to change cheat codes to be different from Doom (to which I suppose there should be no reasonable objection), I was thinking that maybe the new codes could serve to give credit to Freedoom contributors? A precedent for that can be found in the demo version of Hexen, where the cheat codes are names of Raven Software developers.

Cheat codes can be changed with plain old dehacked. Personally I don't think it's necessary to change the cheat codes and I'd prefer not to do so - I use the cheats so often when testing things that it would be annoying to have to learn a whole bunch of new codes. It's tiresome enough just having to remember the cheat codes for Heretic/Hexen/Strife.

Cheat code changes through dehacked do not work in ZDoom.

They used to, but at some point they stopped to, and when the bug was reported most people argued in favor of removing it altogether instead of fixing it.

Personally I wouldn't be very comfortable with that. Aren't the cheat codes considered property of id Software? Or are they part of the source code now and therefore GPL?

I didn't realise that many people would be against changing the cheat codes. I respect this decision, but I still believe that honouring project contributors would be a nice thing if it was ever decided to change the codes. It's not like FREDRIK, ESPI, SCUBA etc. are hard to memorize.

Good evening! Firstly I must say that Hammer of Thyrion is an amazing product. With bigger resolutions, more key binding options and support for cd-less high-quality music it's the most essential modification to Hexen II I have ever seen. However, I'd like to ask for some help.

2) I was once playing LAN coop with a friend, but when I loaded a save and both of us connected, he was stuck in a wall and nothing could be done about it, so we had to restart. It happened on either Temple of Nefertum or Ancient Temple of Nefertum, as far as I remember. What should we do to prevent further accidents from happening, and even if they happen, is it possible to give ourselves puzzle elements and keys?

3) HexenWorld for me can't connect to localhost, no matter if I use batch files on the GLH2.exe or h2ded.exe. Can I do anything about it? I've heard HW servers use different ports than normal H2, so should I port more ports too?

4) I have read the H2 FAQ and it says, that you can enable rocket jumping with the Discs of Repulsion. I have actually accomplished that on a server from someone else, but how do I enable it on my own?

5) The other FAQ says, that the game has cutscenes. An intro is implied in the base game, but I have never seen it. In the POP MP however, I can view and intro to it, which plays in a lower resolution for whatever reason. The FAQ said they were recorded at a 320x176 or something like that resolution. Is that all I can do?

9) When I played LAN coop with a friend, I enabled friendly fire, but that didn't do anything. Too bad, because I have recently read in the MP FAQ about, how attacking the player can steal his xp in order to balance your own. Also, being a sheep boosts xp gain, so using a Seal of the Ovinomancer on a friend could be useful. But, can any of this be done on a dedicated server?

10) The MP FAQ also implies of impulse 33 allowing to see the wolrd from the eyes of a coop friend, along with some other impulse toggling chasecam. Are they included in HoT? I'd love to toggle chasecam with the press of one button as opposed to two.

All xp, etc stuff are already managed by the server according to data

received from the client. You can run certain commands directly on the

dedicated server's console; don't have a list handy, but FAQs should help

Say, you want to apply an impulse on player-2 so that he turns into sheep?

If there is an impulse for that then I guess issuing that impulse from the

server console would work (don't know such game play details myself...)

Welcome again!

What port should I open if I run a HexenWorld server? I've tried to use the "-port" command on hwsv.exe, but it doesn't do anything. Will opening 26950 along with 26900(which is for base H2) be enough? Also, I'd love to hear some recommendations on where to get mods\maps\addons for H2 and HW, since after making a Google search finding anything is quite difficult. Heck, the Raven-Games.com forum seems to be removed and replaced with a Facebook group, so anything found there may be harder to find. Anything I haven't heard of is welcome. Thank you in advance!

Glad you are kindly answering my posts. The final things I'd like to ask:

- Other than more enemy placements and disabling cheats, does changing difficulties do anything? Seems like maybe the enemies are faster, but are they?

- What does it take to make your own mods for H2/HW? Is there anything special that Quake coding guides won't teach me? Are playermodel replacements easy to make and load?

Welcome back! I have been informed that Portals of Praevus introduced a new skill setting, which made enemies respawn. From what I have tested, it works with Hammer on Thyrion on enemies in the old campaign, but when I tried to play the new campaign, enemies trying to respawn crashed the game. Specifically, it happened with crimson spiders in map "keep1". I have a log of the situation attached to this post. Please don't mind the fact that I used the -iwad parameter, that happened only because I launch my Hexen 2 programs with an app called ZDL(don't have anything better to use with that). Nonetheless, I I tried to recreate the situation with the latest beta build("hexen2-1.5.7-win64-SVN-r5413.zip"), but the issue seems to be fixed, so I probably shouldn't make a bug ticket. I want to play the game on skill 4 setting(to make coop more fair), but should I just stick with skill 3 and 1.5.6, or use some of the latest snapshots? I'm aware they can be buggy in other areas, so could you enlighten me on when exactly did you fix the code for crimson spider respawning, so I could use the earliest build without the issue or anything like that? Thank you in advance!
