Tecplot 360 can now save variables by name in macros, layouts, and stylesheets and use names when loading data and retaining the existing style. This capability must be turned on in the tecplot.cfg file.

In Tecplot 360 2017 R1 we introduced a new Python API, PyTecplot. In Tecplot 360 2017 R3 recording of PyTecplot scripts is available so that you can draft advanced scripts as easily as you record current Macros. We are incrementally adding commands which are recorded as pure Python. Commands that have not been added yet are recorded using tecplot.macro.execute_command.
The pytecplot library is a high level API that connects your Python scriptto the power of the Tecplot 360 visualization engine. It offers lineplotting, 2D and 3D surface plots in a variety of formats, and 3D volumetricvisualization. Familiarity with Tecplot 360 and the Tecplot 360macro language is helpful, but not required.
This is the first release of a guaranteed-stable interface of PyTecplot.Following this, the API will adhere closely to the guidelines enumeratedby Semantic Versioning 2.0.0.

- Setting field data now unravels multidimensional arrays automatically,removing the need for the user to do this in client code.

- New interface for scatter symbols, RGB coloring, data labels and light source.
- New animation export defaults: all frames, width: 800 px, supersample: 3.
- Reverse indexing (negative indices counting from the end) for linemap,fieldmap and solution_timestep.
- Regex pattern search for pages, frames, linemaps, zones and variables.
- Interface change: getting a single page, frame, linemap, zone or variableby name no longer raises and exception if no match is found. Instead themethods emit a warning and return None.
- Setting array data from Python into PyTecplot now orders of magnitude fasterif Numpy is installed for batch-mode.
- New property: Variable.lock_mode to get lock status of the variable.
- New multiprocessing examples.
- Several documentation corrections and minor fixes.
- Removed: slice and isosurface properties are 3D only and have now beenremoved from the Cartesian2DFieldPlot class.
After installation, take the following steps to activate the software.
- Run Tecplot. When prompted with a "Licensing" window, select "Network License server"
- Then enter the License server name of: tecplot.eos.ncsu.edu
Note that off-campus users must connect to the NCSU VPN in order to reach the license server. - Click OK.
- You can check the licensing status by going to Help > Tecplot 360 Licensing...
This is a matlab function to read ASCII format tecplot data. It supports both IJK ordered data and finite element data. Installation of Tecplot is not needed. License of Tecplot is also not needed.

You can contact the IT coordinators of either of thesedepartments to see if they will add you to the list of approved users.Running in batch modeAlthough tecplot360 has a nice GUI mode, at times it is desirable to run tecplotin "batch" mode, where all input is provided from a command line or files andno GUI is started. In particular, when submitting jobs to an HPC cluster, onetypically wants to run tecplot from within in shell script.
