Ihave connected a second monitor to the USB 3.1 port on my HP EliteBook 850 G5. Everything worked fine at first. However, when I remove the plug from the USB 3.1 port and plug it back in, the monitor no longer receives a signal. I then have to switch off the laptop and reset the USB 3.1 port by pressing the power button for approx. 30 seconds

(I found this in a forum). What is the problem or is there a driver from Intel that solves this problem?

The driver on my laptop is from Microsoft (driver version: 10.0.22621.2506).


I'm sorry that I don't have a OP to quote however from memory I am nearly certain that this is a UEFI firmware bug and whether it's Intel or WHQL signed drivers eXtensible Host Controller despite saying it's a 3.0 controller I can assure you that this device is properly controlling the USB 3.1 gen2 monitor at Intel Spec 3.2.


That's necessary because to make the monitor connected to UEFI video there's a bios variable that gets set to the NVRAM and the UEFI of this first generation tech was never programmed with code to allow USB Controller to modify the NVRAM variables representing each video device in UEFI prior to this chipset could never reassign them automatically after reconnected it gets a new disiplay variable but the graphics are still pointing to the now detached and reattached removable display.

The problem I have is getting my HP DV7T-7000 Windows 7 64-bit laptop's USB 3.0 ports to function at USB 3.0 speeds. I used to get 3.0 speeds but noticed I'm having a problem in the last few months. When I attach a USB 3.0 device to a USB 3.0 port I get the message that says your device can perform faster when attached to a super speed port.


I've tried to uninstall the Intel USB 3.0 extensible host controller driver. Re-installation of the latest driver from Intel failed and I got a BSOD during the installation. I updated my BIOS with the latest firmware from HP and the BSOD ceased but the driver still wouldn't install properly. I get an installation error and after restarting the USB 3.0 controller is installed but not USB 3.0 Hub which shows to be an Unknown Device. The driver installation log reveals the details below.


When I tried the Controller driver supplied by HP for my laptop I get a prompt saying that the "PCI Bus" driver that's installed on my system is newer than the one that's getting installed and whether I want to overwrite it. I don't have System Restore activated on my system and I also don't want to go through the tedious process of re-installing Windows and setup my development environment again. It's worth mentioning that I use Advance System Optimizer to keep my drivers up to date. Any help would be greatly appreciated.


You need to update that PCI bus driver. That's the driver for the USB3PCIe bridge controller, and if it says the one already installed is newer, then it's likely a mismatched version to the XHCI and root hub drivers.


Also, do not allow your 3rd party driver update software to update that bridge driver. The PCI ID is the same as Intel's USB2 bridge chip, but the driver file is different. If that software detects that there's a newer version, it might replace it with the wrong file again. In fact, that may be why it broke in the first place.


During development the system was running USB2 will no problems whatsover but when we moved to a system running USB3.0 we started getting the following error which resulted in only 11 of the cameras being recognised.


The configuration is that the cameras connect to a powered USB3 hub (something like this) which allows 7 devices to be attached. The system has three of these - all powered, but will only support around 11 of the connected devices (two and a bit hubs worth). We are sure that this is a power issue but all of the hubs are powered and the cameras are also on mains adapters.


At the moment we are having to fall back to USB2 but the transfer rate means that the photo capture process has increased significantly - each image file is around 23MB and it can take 20 seconds or so to download all of the files.


There is a hardware limit of 96 endpoints on most Intel XHCI controllers. It wouldn't surprise me if each camera is using 8 endpoints, that's a pretty typical number for complex, modern devices. The hubs occupy endpoints as well. You can confirm this with USBView. This is a controller hardware limitation, and there's no way around it.


First: i do not know if there might be a bug/feature limit on your USB host controller or spec limitation (in case of devices, hubs in row) change in USB2 vs USB3 (Davids Answer seems to show the limit of the intel controller)


Make sure you do not use too long cables between host and hubs, low cost ones did produce high amount of issues for us on even 3m length, while USB2.0 specs allow for 5m Cable until you need a "Hub"Measure the power output of the USB cables.Most of the time you get 7 Port hubs there are actually 2 Hubs inside the case row.So you should check which port on your hub is connected to the "primary" and "secondary" hub.


on our setup we were limited to 3 additional hubs per Port.However even with active power supply on the hubs and good cable connections we had issues if we added more than 1 7er Hubs (=7 devices) per physical mainboard USB Port.


We solved the same problem by putting in an internal self-powered usb 3.0 4-Port PCI-Express Add-on Card. But only if your computer has the PCIe expansion slot. This adds additional host controller as the Intel one has reached its limit.


Hello when "VirtualHere USB 3 eXtensible Host Controller" is installed in device tree, at reboot one of the hardware USB drivers fails (and my docking station will refuse to work).

The error displayed on the hardware USB Device is: Code 31: "Object Name already exists"

Everythings returns normal if I remove "VirtualHere USB 3 eXtensible Host Controller" from the Device Manager.

Lenovo Thinkpad P52, Windows 10 Professional 64 bit.


Hello I have updated the Thinkpad drivers multiple times at the link you supplied and yes now it is all updated.

I am having this trouble (main symptom: docking station not recognized at boot time) since months.

During these monts of trouble, I have:

* updated drivers, updated bios, updated docking station firmware, several times.

* updated vhui64 multiple times
