Really really great app. Thank you so much for your work... SMS and
smart dial work great on my nexus one with pemnysim. Going to save
heaps of money. Now to the point. Not complaining but you asked people
to let you know if find and problems or improvements. When I use the
SMS app there are no capital letters at the start or sentences and
when I write (I) it comes up lower case(i) No biggy just wanted to let
you know. Thanks again.

Strange never noticed it before but your right. I will add it to the list of things to look into when i get some time.  Maybe it is a setting i can turn on.

Hi Chris,
I have replied to whirlpool and realised not in this thread for a
while.
My wife has taken over my Hero and is using your app with great
success. This is a big step as she is not a techie gal.
I have upgraded to a Nexus.
Both phones are on Pennytel SIMs with 500M data, each phone linked to
a PT account
Also running Swype which works fine onto your SMS part of the app.
The Nexus is quite a bit more integrated with the app and very smooth
compared to the Hero. ( Hero is still good tho.)
It synchs easily and dials from the contacts list fine, you see real
number then the PT smartdial number as the call connects and then just
the real number.
Also easily recalls missed calls that are being selected and dialed
from the list. You see the Pilot number appear 0289898800 and then the
real number as it starts to ring. (unsynched new numbers)
SMS is great and links via contacts to app fine.
Again I would like to say thanks for a fantastic app. Congratulations
on terrific effort.
Rob

PS
On the Hero I had to take out all +'s and in number spaces and
trailing spaces from the contacts and then sync to PT.

Hi Rob,
That is great news. I think you are the first person using my app
that has multiple pennytel sims. Can you confirm it is working
correctly and you are getting free calls between the mobiles? I think
i added that feature in but i was never able to test it.

Hello Chris and team,

Sorry to take a while I wanted to verify the call records.
The PTSIM to PTSIM calls appear on the PennySIM records only and are free.
I also call the Pennytel account number via the gateway from the SIM for a free call to home VOIP codec.
Nexus is particularly smooth with the App on calls and SMS's.

Thanks again for this great app.
Happy to help with any queries or tests.

Regards from Rob

Hi Chris

First, thanks for the great app. I don't use the SMS feature much,
but the phone dialler works much smoother and more quickly than the
phone card applications.

I do have a problem with multiple pennytel sims. I am getting charged
for the calls between my pennysims; also, the application does not
dial directly (as it should), but dials the pilot number. Similarily,
when I dial my landline pennytel number, it dials via the pilot
number. What is your program logic for recognising pennytel numbers?

Thanks
Dennis

Dennis,
That is caused because you are not syncing the numbers inside the pennytel app.  Open the application and click the sync button.  it can also be caused if you have over 300 contacts numbers.

Hi Chris

I have synced the contacts; the dialog reports 'Adding SmartDial number'
but does not say anything about my other pennysims, and then, "all smart
dial access numbers are in use". This could be because I do have >300
contacts, 1644 in total.

Let me explain my use case. I have pennysims I want to be able to dial and
sms directly (and therefore freely), both from within my own account, and
attached to other pennytel accounts, both mobile numbers and landline
numbers (/free/ numbers). I would like all other contacts to go via
pennytel smartdial, either directly with their own synced pennysim number,
or via the catchall smartdial access number.

It is a bit tricky, as the /free/ numbers are not all in my account. Do I
need to add them as smart dials? Or delete them as smart dials, and never
sync again?

I am happy to help you with the coding of these features, if you are
looking for assistance.

Thanks
Dennis

Hi Dennis,
The number of contacts are defiantly the cause in your case. It is already built into the app to check for numbers that can be called directly for free via an api pennytel made for me but i do this when i sync all the contacts and add any that are missing.  When i built this app pennytel only supplied 300 smartdial numbers so an error would be thrown when that is reached. If they have increased that i could maybe bump the number up in the code.

The issue is when it runs out of contacts it is unlikely it will keep checking the rest of the contacts for ones to bypass the pilot number/smartdial. 1644 phone numbers is a hell of a lot of phone numbers :) just to be clear it is the number of phone numbers that is important not the number of contacts.

There is prob a way i could fix this but i don't have time just now.  I will see if i still have the code and development stuff setup at home this weekend.  if i do i may be able to fix it quickly.  if it is a big fix you may have to wait as i have another project i am working on that is due soon. The fix would only fix the free calls.

Dennis,
I have not looked at the code in a very long time but if i remember correctly then all the settings for an application are stored in an xml like file in a directory that is created for each apps configuration.  that directory would be on your phones memory and i would think it would require a rooted phone to access it.  that said if you could access it you could update the lists manually for the numbers to dial directly.  The way i did direct dialing for memory was to add the number to the list to use the smartdial numbers but gave it the original number as the smartdial number so that the original number is dialed.

Hi Chris

So your program goes through the first 300 numbers in my address book, and if they are 'free' as designated by the pennytel api, your program marks them as free, and leaves them for direct dial?  All other numbers are either dialed via pennytel API, or via the gateway number?

Is there a database I can manipulate so that I can add my free numbers to the list you keep?

Cheers
Dennis

Hi Chris

I had a look for the file storing the configuration; there is a directory
called /data/data/pennytel.app but it only has 2 folders, lib and
shared_prefs. Lib is empty, and shared_prefs holds what it advertises. Do
you have any other clues as to where that data would exist?

Thanks
Dennis
