If you're into social justice or teaching or higher education or if you wanna do good deeds unto the Lord, this is a great opportunity. Read on. A good friend of mine (Pastor Andy Kim) started a career prep school in northeast philly (hunting park) and their in need of volunteers for spring! If you're interested you can contact Jeremy Chen who works there (his email is in the forwarded email below). This school is an extension of the efforts of Pastor Andy's church that is a wonderful example of incarnational ministry. There are two pdf pamphlet's attached for more info, or email Jeremy if you're interested. He's a very friendly dude.

Hey college students, young adults, and really anyone who wants to invest in Philly youth,

I am helping look for volunteers for Vocatio (think Christian idea of "Vocation"/Calling + Vocational/career-prep school) Career Preparatory School, an emerging initiative headed up by Pastor Andy Kim, of 8th Street Community Church. Check out Vocatio’s website, and the attached brochure.

Who: You (Young adults involved in churches/Christian fellowships) + inner city youth

What: Volunteer Tutoring for inner city teenagers/young adults for an SAT/college-prep class, to be offered as part of the Vocatio program.

When: Saturday mornings (~9-12AM), March 5-May 14.

Where: Hunting Park neighborhood of North Philadelphia; If need be, pickups could be arranged from Hunting Park station on the Broad Street Line. If enough students are interested I may look into options for transportation.

Why: For Jesus, for education in Philly, for working with great people, for learning about inner city issues and being exposed to a different part of Philly.

Expressing interest of course doesn’t obligate you to participate this Spring. We’re just hoping to know who all might be interested in participating in tutoring by February 20th.

For a perspective from college students who have already been involved in this program, check out the attachment “Prep at 8th.” (This is the name of the program they used at their campus university fellowship to advertise their partnership with Vocatio.) If you are interested in establishing an ongoing partnership like this one, let's talk!
