If you decide to change your point of sale software, you will need to determine the best timing for your business to stop using QuickBooks Point of Sale and start using your new point of sale software.

Real-time inventory management not only lets you set re-order points but also helps to understand the trends, what customers are buying or expected to buy. When offers or discounts are given to customers, QuickBooks POS helps to get insights on whether the offer is profitable, or you are just giving away items from the inventory.
QuickBooks POS has an interactive dashboard which gives the insights on the reports and summaries of any department in the business like direct access to the sales report, hot-selling products, sales graph, receipts, on-going offers, inventory information, support center, and many more.
With Ability Financial Exchange, you can add and receive inventory in QuickBooks Online, make sales in QuickBooks POS, sync inventory, customers, vendors, sales, sales receipts, and invoices to QBO, and run reports from QBO and POS. AFE works in the cloud, like QuickBooks Online. Integrated AFE features are accessible through the QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Point of Sale login.
With the QuickBooks Point of Sale Desktop end-of-day procedure, users can only sync or exchange data with QuickBooks Desktop, not QuickBooks Online. Ability Financial Exchange (AFE) for QuickBooks Online provides real-time sync of several necessary fields, including sales and sales receipts, invoices, customers, and inventory between QuickBooks POS and cloud-based QuickBooks Online.
In spite of its name, Basic offers the key features of a POS software. It can scan barcodes, process credit cards, and run one-click sales reports. Pro does all these same things and it allows you to more directly manage the details. For instance, you have the ability to track employee hours, sales commissions, and track work orders and sales orders. Pro also lets you customize things like receipts and price tags. This allows you to understand, how much oversight and flexibility you need at the register to identify the better solution.
It could not be easier to get up and running with QuickBooks Point of Sale Basic. Just answer a few questions and the core functionality is ready to go. Built-in tutorials teach you everything else, along with an extensive practice file to make you a master user. Items from Microsoft Exel are automatically imported to save you tons of manual entry. The sale screen is also streamlined and straightforward so you can begin immediately and accurately ringing up sales. Pro is just as easy to get set up with, plus it includes a price management tool. Updating prices and adding discounts across the entire store takes just a few entries. No matter what solution you choose, expect it to work wonderfully on day one.
ARBA Retail Systems provides an alternative Point of Sale solution to the Quickbooks tool, offering in-store and online sales management. They do have a special offer for existing Quickbooks POS customers.
We began working with Lightspeed through our QSP partner, Complete Business Group, and we are pleased in how the relationship is evolving. They natively synchronize with QB Online, the feature set is on par with QB POS, and also have incorporated their own e-commerce platform, so all the things that a traditional Brick-and-mortar store needs with additional e-commerce integration. Also all of the current hardware in the QuickBooks Point of Sale hard bundle is supported in Lightspeed. Lightspeed is a one stop cloud-based Point of Sale for the retail location, e-commerce sales, and payment processing. They also integrate with other online shopping carts and marketplaces.
Ease of use is also important. When merchants accept cash or check as payment, there are no differences as to how to make a sale. With Payment Terminal for QuickBooks POS, merchants will be able to process credit cards by keyed, swiped, or EMV entry with a supported gateway.* There are no changes as to how business is handled with customers who use cash or checks. When a sales transaction is complete, merchants can print receipts for customers and their records. If for any reason a receipt needs to be reprinted, that is also an option. Returning items and issuing refunds are additional features when using Payment Terminal.
The Payment Terminal for QuickBooks POS does have a few screens that may look slightly different but overall the workflow will be very similar. We strive to help merchants get through each sale quickly and accurately. We provide a few new ways to review sales so businesses will be able to keep track of everything on the go.
I have been looking at all the apps that work with Qucikbooks but none really tell me if they work with QB Point of Sale. I track all my inventory in POS and do all my data entry there expect for my monthly bills. Those get entered direct in to QB desktop. Is there an app that will transfer my sales from Shopify to QB POS vs QB Desktop?
QuickBooks has partnered with the ecommerce platform Shopify to offer a point of sale solution that integrates with QuickBooks Desktop Financial Software. But Intuit has also noted that customers can and should explore any POS solution that may work best for their business.
Since its introduction in 2001, QuickBooks Point of Sale has seen an average year-over-year growth of 30 percent. By comparison, the point of sale market in North America grew by just 5 percent in 2005, according to research by the IHL Consulting Group.
A long-time QuickBooks financial software user, Chad Harris, owner of the Garden Gate in New Orleans, wanted an easy-to-use point of sale system that exported inventory and sales data from his garden and home decor stores directly into his accounting software.
"Intuit has taken a very complicated process and made it absolutely easy," Harris said. "My son started operating it at age 8. He would take care of the sale when we were busy and the system would automatically update our inventory and capture the necessary customer information. If an 8 year old can use it, we knew that everyone else could manage it just as easily."
"The No. 1 piece of feedback our customers give us is that the right point of sale solution levels the playing field with their competitors," said Steven Aldrich, general manager of QuickBooks Point of Sale. "Because our system is easy to use, our customers spend less time managing their businesses and more time helping their customers. We hear often that they would never go back to using a regular cash register."
Software initiation for Point of Sale took us about 40 minutes. During the thorough setup interview, a series of screens ask dozens of questions about your business, from its name to the nitty-gritty (such as what pleasantry you want printed on customer receipts). As with other Intuit apps, the interview links to help pages that explain sales-tax codes and other perplexing terms. We particularly liked the ability to import company data directly from the QuickBooks bookkeeping app. You can also import data from Microsoft Excel 2000, 2002, or 2003.
Point of Sale Pro 4.0 offers a series of minor yet helpful software upgrades. Our favorite is the ability to e-mail sales and purchase orders directly from the POS station. After creating the order, click a button to send an e-mail. The program loads your default e-mail client, which then sends the order as a file attachment. Another new perk: the
QuickBooks Point of Sale Pro 4.0 software has new tools for service-oriented companies, such as the ability to create work orders and track sales commissions. Still, this software is geared toward retailers; service firms might meet their needs and save money with a conventional accounting program instead.
Instant Accept Point of Sale integration is a seamless solution which integrate directly into QuickBooks POS. While using the IA point of sale with QuickBooks, you have the ability to submit transactions such as payments, voids and refunds, pay invoices, and more from within Instant Accept. Instant Accept seamlessly syncs and updates your payment data with your QuickBooks company file in real-time.
Instant Accept goes one step further to help you control what your employees can see and do. Special credentials can be assigned to each employee based on what information they need to see or have access to. While some employees may only need to view and or edit customer information there are some employees that may need more access, such as accepting payments, making changes to your customers data, opening invoices and sales receipts. Instant Accept is there to give you more comfort in knowing that you can decide what you want and control how your bookkeeping can be viewed or accessed. This keeps employees out of your private customer and financial data with less risk of possible changes being made by accident or nefarious means.
Hardware is not necessarily required. You have the option to use the Instant Accept virtual terminal. You do, however, have the option to use a payment processing terminal. Other hardware items you may want to add to your point-of-sale setup are:
QuickBooks Point of Sale is a software program that is designed to assist small business owners in keeping track of sales and inventory. Business owners can use the program to ring up product sales, and to see immediately how much inventory they have left. The program is intended to function as an alternative to the traditional cash register, and it works alongside other QuickBooks accounting software. Using the program for inventory is intended to be much simpler; once inventory is logged into the program, all changes update inventory status automatically.
