This year, the Jain holiday of Paryushan falls September 10th to 17th for Swetambars and September 18th to 27th
for Digambars. Paryushan is an 8-10 day Jain festival for Jains to renew their faith and practice penance and the core principles of Jainism. It comes at a time when wandering monks take up temporary residence in villages during the Monsoon season. Each day is dedicated to a principle of self-righteousness (uttam dharma). The 10 days represent: Forgiveness, Humility, Straightforwardness, Contentment, Truth, Self-Restraint, Penance, Renunciation, Non-Attachment, and Celibacy. During this time, Jains will take up religious practices above and beyond what they normally practice, often to the same level as monks! Jains will commonly fast, seek forgiveness for the
violence they've purposefully or accidentally committed, meditate, and take up very strict diets (no meat, eggs, root vegetables, milk, or greens).
Please fill out this form, if you are practicing Paryushan and are interested in ordering Jain-friendly meals.
