Hey all,
Penn Against War will be meeting at Williams Hall Room 205 on Wednesday November 28 at 8:00 PM to plan a movie and discussion event that will happen before the end of the semester. I have written up some details and news on the planning below. If you are interested in being involved with PAW or this event, we would welcome you to the meeting.

At the last PAW meeting, the five of us (Neil, Chris, George, Anand, Tanvi) decided to plan an movie and discussion event for the evening of December 10th. We chose this because it is during the study days before finals, and so we would have enough time to plan and publicize the event. There were several proposals for the film to see, and there was a lot of interest in the new film, "Meeting Resistance" by Steve Connors and Molly Bingham about which is a documentary that examines the motivations and goals of Iraqis who are fighting the occupation through interviews with them. This looks like a really great film, but it is out in theaters right now. I got the following from the CAN National email list:
Some chapters as I understand it have already contacted the directors/producers and it appears the DVD is not out yet. They are doing screenings on some campuses and I think some chapters, including the one here at GW, have organized such screenings. I know CAN at GW has organized a screening for Dec. 4th (followed by a Q&A session with the film-makers) at the reduced fee of $500, and that is at a significant discount, so it's not cheap. It might be cheaper for chapters to wait till it comes out on DVD if they can't pay the cost or get funding for it.

I think it would be great to put on an event like this but I don't think we can put on a big meeting like this or get $500 (also, 2 weeks is probably too short of notice for them too). I haven't been able to find the film on file sharing sources either.
be useful. Also mentioned at the meeting was a movie on the soldiers resistance in the Vietnam War. At the meeting we will need to decide what movie to show and plan publicizing the event, and the space for the event.
