Scourge contains 143 black-bordered cards (44 rare, 44 uncommon, and 55 commons; 1 rare and 1 uncommon less than Legions). Its expansion symbol is a dragon skull to reflect its dragon theme.[5] Like its preceding expansions, Onslaught and Legions, the set featured a theme that focused heavily on "tribal" cards, or cards that are concerned with creature types.[6] Scourge was notable for having a focus on cards with high converted mana costs ("cost matters" or "size matters") and dragon/dragon-related cards.[4] With Bladewing the Risen, the set even featured a dragon lord.[7] Scourge was the last set to feature the old-style card faces or a storyline set in Dominaria until the release of the Time Spiral block.
The set featured a prominent dragon subtheme, as reflected by the higher-than-usual number of dragons cards, auxiliary or support cards (e.g., Bladewing's Thrall, Dragonspeaker Shaman, Dragonstorm), and other dragon-related cards (e.g., Day of the Dragons, Dragonstalker, Form of the Dragon).[14] In addition, Scourge featured a theme dealing with high converted mana costs ("cost matters") and, specifically, mana-cost-6-or-more,[15] and various cards were printed to support this theme and reward players for utilizing costly cards, such as the cycle of Dragon auras, Accelerated Mutation, Ancient Ooze, Fierce Empath, Krosan Drover, and Kurgadon, and other cards, such as Pyrostatic Pillar, punished players for utilizing cheaper cards.

Lucemon Larva is the true form of Lucemon, appeared as a larva-like creature with 6 pairs of feathered gold wings and a short sting-like tail. He controls his Shadowlord Mode as a puppet. When Susanoomon knocks Larva Mode out of the crystal ball, it shatters and the dragon loses control. After his Shadowlord Mode form is destroyed, he is finally killed for good when the 10 legendary warriors each attack him with a sword, being released from Susanoomon.
Sasuke takes the others to Sora-ku to stock up on supplies, after which he explains that their team, called Hebi, has been assembled for the sole reason of finding and killing Itachi. They then split up to search for leads. While trying to pick up Itachi's trail, Sasuke is confronted by Tobi of Akatsuki, who distracts him while Deidara attacks from above with his Explosive Clay. Sasuke summons a snake to shield the blast and then immediately retaliates, seemingly cutting Tobi down, although he gets up unfazed. Deidara attacks with a volley of additional explosives, which Sasuke is able to deflect with his Chidori Senbon. Deidara takes to the air with a C2 dragon and Tobi plants explosive mines underground, cutting off Sasuke's escape. Sasuke enters the second stage of his cursed seal and, by sacrificing his transformation's left wing, he is able to propel Deidara's dragon onto the minefield.
Later that night, the two went to the basement. Not wanting others to flirt with Sakura anymore, he slipped a wedding ring he made with Earth Release on her finger. While researching the books, they found an art style similar to Sai's, not native to this country. Looking deeper at the drawings, they realised that the art style seemed to be the basis of a popular card game in the Land of Redaku. The pattern revealed a connection the constellations in the stars. They also noticed the old notes contained the Konoha emblem. Sasuke trusted to Sakura to figure out the code, her passing him a note with the decrypted code days later, asking to meet her. Meeting with Sakura, he revealed his discovery that the Hoshinarabe game was based off the history of the Sage of Six Paths and the Tailed Beasts. Sakura explained that a messenger from the capital was arriving to meet with Zansūru. Sakura knocked him out and disguised herself as him, while Sasuke transformed into his staff. As Sakura conversed with Zansūru in his office, Sasuke snuck away, using his Earth Release to make a key for Zansūru's back door. It led to a cellar that was filled with stones and chickens. Before Sasuke could look more, Zansūru came in. Not taking a chance, Sasuke dispersed himself, revealed to be a shadow clone.
Later while taking with Jiji, Sasuke realised that the "sky that fell to Earth" half was hidden in a lake. Later, he approached Sakura, who realised that the card game was also based off the 12 hand seals in ninjutsu and that its strongest hand was the key to decode the Map of the Heavens. As the two found the site, Sasuke offhandedly asked Sakura if she would like an authentic wedding ring, Sakura politely declined. Sasuke admitted to Sakura his regret in not being around more over the years since marrying each other. As Sakura took out the playing cards to decipher the seal, Sasuke noted the back of the cards had a lizard on a rock. Sakura noted how long ago there were dragonic creatures that went extinct after a meteor crashed on the planet. As Sakura performed the hand seals to reveal the polar particles, Sasuke realised that the prisoners were digging up fossils and from that the true nature of Zansūru's plan. Suddenly several ancient dragons took to the sky, which Sasuke deduced were summoned by the Impure World Reincarnation Technique. Sasuke instructed Sakura to return and look for Zansūru, who instead arrived in a flying dragon after her departure. He learned that the jutsu used was different from Impure World Reincarnation, and from Sasuke's grasp of the situation, Zansūru determined he received intel from allies at Nagare Village. When observing Zansūru's chakra pathway system, Sasuke noticed his chakra reserves were weak, and realised Zansūru was an ordinary individual rather than a shinobi, meaning someone else revived the dragons. Sasuke dodged an attack from Menō, and Zansūru left, ordering the dragon to kill Sasuke. Sasuke managed to befriend it through a combination of kind words, genjutsu channelled through its body, and tending to its burn with supercooled mist.
Retrieving the particles, he joined up with Sakura, who had restrained Jiji. Sasuke asked Jiji about why he got involved with Zansūru's plot. After learning of Jiji's background, Sasuke revealed he had been deceived, as his deceased lover Margo was actually alive. Overjoyed that she was alive, Jiji released the technique, and Sasuke thanked Menō while bidding him farewell. One of the dragons attacked Jiji before returning to the afterlife, and he mused if anything would have happened if he had been as strong as Sasuke and Sakura. Sakura and Kakashi returned to Konoha with the polar particles, allowing Naruto to be healed, and Sasuke resumed his travels.

At the time of the Alterac crisis, Lord Duncan Senturus and his paladins of the Silver Hand encountered Rhonin and Vereesa Windrunner, sent by the Kirin Tor to save the Dragonqueen Alexstrasza in Grim Batol, and took them to an unnamed settlement of the Order about three days from the port of Hasic. Despite their reluctance to cooperate with the mage, they agreed to help them in their quest, escorting them to Hasic which they found in ruins after an attack by a pair of dragon riders of the Dragonmaw clan. They subsequently allied with Falstad Dragonreaver and his wing of gryphon riders in order to reach Khaz Modan, and while en route, Senturus sacrificed himself to save Rhonin and his companions when they were ambushed by Dragonmaw dragonriders.[53] During meetings of great importance in Lordaeron's palace, especially when monarchs were visiting, the Knights of the Silver Hand were needed for protection and surveillance, being the only military unit they all trusted, so that even King Genn Greymane and Admiral Daelin Proudmoore agreed to having themselves searched by selected sentries from the holy order, even despite its outward allegiance to Terenas Menethil II.[54]
Soon after they shored up their defensive lines, the combined strength of the Alliance, Aldor, Silver Hand, Horde, and Broken troops stationed at the portal confronted Ragnok Bloodreaver's forces at the Stair of Destiny. During the battle, Ragnok was disintegrated by a radiant and sacred swing of Jorad's hammer. Without their leader and the nether dragons' support, the remains of the death knight's forces were driven off by the coalition, stopping them from getting a foothold in Azeroth.[109]
