Is Pencil Code down?

Hi! I am a GA Middle School Teacher. I use it everyday. It was down on 09-25-23 and today 09-27-23. The 25th it was very unresponsive. No files would load, etc. Today (27th) seemed a little bit less glitchy. I was able to have students navigate to

These would eventually load. So students could code, I had them switch to text mode and paste into a Google Doc. That way when Pencil Code comes back up, they can reactivate their code and complete their projects.

Previously, the site was down on 05-15-23. As for the summer months I do not know.

I assume maintenance of some sort. I have tried to email Mr. Bau to no avail. I wish there was a way to contact the folks at Pencil Code. I know that it is sort of a forgotten labor of love, but I think there are a lot of folks using it as it is great in regards to FERPA compliance and student personal info, etc. 

Anyhow, I wish it was easier to contact them or even if the site had a posted maintenance schedule or some notification(s) as to when it is down.

Thanks for responding to my post. I appreciate it.

I too have emailed David to ask about the future of Pencil Code. Like everyone here, I'm grateful that it has been available as a free resource for so many years, but it's concerning to think that it may no longer be actively supported. 

Here's hoping all that's needed is a server restart!

Functionality with files seems to be up and working at the moment as of 09-29-23 7:43AM East Coast Time

While "down" these links "work", allowing for students to continue to code. Consider for next time.

I love this resource so much. I will keep a log of outages and report back to this conversation.
