Hello people
I am final year student at BITS Pilani India , I was interested to work on this project.

About my experience with Web Development , I have been developing web-based softwares for last 4 years. I have been a GSOC Student last year with FOSSASIA foundation , where I worked on the Body Visualiser Project , a Javascript implementation , that allows a user to customise a 3D Model of a human body.

From the two approach discussed on the ideas page , the browser implementation seemed more favorable to me in terms of efficiency and scalability.I would love to discuss this project to know more about it and work upon it this summer.

Thanks
Prashant Kiran

Sounds good!  In the next couple days I'll get together with the mentor for that track and post a pre project for it, so you can try your hand at the codebase before you put together your proposal during the applciation window.  I agree, I think the browser-based approach may be more scalable.

Your first step is to get a running build of pencil code going - https://github.com/PencilCode/pencilcode - then make a small modification (for example, add an alert when you click the "Save" button) - the pre project will get you a little bit more into the codebase.

Hi David
I am almost complete with the development environment. I am just facing one issue with the alias setting in linux . I tried adding the alias to the .bashrc file but it gives error on saving and I can not access https://pencilcode.net.dev/ . Can you help me with this lasst step so that I can start contributing. I am using ubuntu 14.04 LTS(Trusty Tahr). I'm attaching the error which I get.

Hello Prashant.  Looks like there's a typo in the README.md where double quotes are nested in the suggested .bashrc.  One solution is to use single quotes for one of the pairs.  I've updated the README.

Actually there is no need to setup the alias. The "grunt devserver" also serves a .pac file, use it with some chrome proxy plugins such as SwitchyOmega or SwichySharp. This will do a very good job for the purpose, without the need to modify the config file for your shell. Some people might not use bash shell, for example, zsh or fish, so the way to setup alias will be different. I recommend using a simple chrome plugin. It is easy to use, easy to config, easy to turn it on or off. You may even set up a rule to let it toggle itself on or off automatically, based on the domain name. Hope this helps :)
