साथियों,
मैं अपने घर के लिए एक मीडिया पीसी लेने की सोच रहा हूँ| मै इसको अपने टीवी से कनैक्ट करूंगा| कौन सा कोन्फ़िग सही रहेगा?
मुझे इस पीसी से ये ये काम करने हैं :

• लाइव स्ट्रीमिंग (यू ट्यूब या नैटफ्लिक से|
• मीडिया सर्वर (सारी डीवीडी इसमे ड़ाल देंगे|
• औडियो स्ट्रीमिंग (लोकल)
• इंटरनेट सुर्फिंग

अब सवाल ये है, स्ट्रीमिंग डिवाइस लिया जाये या फिर मीडिया पीसी?
कौन सा प्रॉसेसर?
कितनी मेमोरी?
कितनी स्पेस?

पीसी का साइज छोटा होना चाहिए|

Depends on how much dough you have to splurge! ;)

For a good machine I'd suggest an Intel i7 quad with 16GB of RAM, 4x1TB 10000rpm Seagate Barracuda in RAID 10 array & use it with Windows7 Ultimate.

Or it would be better if you go with low storage on the PC & attach a NAS to it for storing your data. In that case, a 500GB single 7200 rpm HDD should suffice on the PC while you can use something like Netgear ReadyNAS with 4 bays in which you can plug in your own HDDs & have it configure them all in a RAID array. You can use Netgear's X-RAID which I've read is quite good & allows you to swap HDDs without any problems or loosing data.

If you're gonna store the data on your pc or in NAS, you should use a RAID array for reliability unless you don't mind loosing data when the thing crashes on you. :)

Your media center PC can be just a box without any keyboard/mice & screen & you can access it remotely via your own laptop/desktop. If you attach NAS to it, then it will be just two small boxes which can be stacked together in any corner. Put them on a secure WLAN & you would be free of the damn wires/cables as well. :)

पीसी के इलावा कुछ और तरीकों का प्रयोग किया जा सकता है। मैं सोनी का
ब्लू-रे प्लेयर BDP-S570 प्रयोग करता हूँ। इस में आप सी-डी, डीवीडी,
ब्लू-रे चलाने के अतिरिक्त यू-ट्यूब, नैट्फ्लिक्स, पैंडोरा जैसी दर्जनों
लाइव स्ट्रीमिंग ऍप्स का प्रयोग कर सकते हैं। इसके अतिरिक्त वायरलैस (या
वायर्ड कनेक्शन) के ज़रिये आप अपने पीसी में सेव की हुई ऑडियो, वीडियो,
इमेज, फाइलों को भी चला सकते हैं। और भी कई डिब्बे हैं, जिन से आप कमोपेश
यही सब कर सकते हैं, जैसे कि Roku, jadoo, आदि। सैमसंग, एलजी वाले भी इसी
तरह के डिब्बे बनाते हैं। इन में बस कमी यह है कि आप ब्राउज़र का पूरा
प्रयोग नहीं कर सकते। फायदा यह है कि सारा काम रिमोट से हो जाता है,
कीबोर्ड की ज़रूरत नहीं पड़ती। गूगल टीवी

ये काम करने का मेरा तरीका ये है -

मेरे पास एक 4x4 HDMI switch है और जैसा की रमण भाई ने लिखा वैसा ही एक प्लेयर भी है स्विच के जरिये मैं सबकुछ एक से ज्यादा स्क्रीन से कनेक्ट कर के चला सकता हूं!  

टीवे पर कंप्यूटर कंप्यूटर पे टीवी - इधर से उधर - उधर से इधर ..जो भी तार्किक रूप से संभव है वो.

जल्दी मे लिखना भूल गया  की मेरे स्विच की मदद से टीवी पर ब्राऊजिंग भी संभव है .. चूंकि टीवी अब स्क्रीन एक्टेंशन की तरह काम करता है. 

और टीवी का आऊटपुट होम थियेटर मे है .. सो साऊंड की क्वालिटी पर कोई काम्प्रोमाईज़ नही.

भैया, मेरे दिमाग मे भी डब्बे जैसे, रोकू, बॉक्सी, गूगलटीवी और डब्लयूडीटीवी का विचार आया था। लेकिन समस्या ये है, कि हम रहते है कुवैत मे, यहाँ पर नैटफ़्लिक्स चलाने के लिए एक प्राक्सी या वीपीएन लगाना पड़ेगा। अब मीडिया पीसी पर तो साफ़्टवेयर वाला वीपीएन लगा सका सकते है, लेकिन रोकू टाइप के डब्बे  के आगे फिर एक नया वीपीएन वाला डेवाइस लगाना पड़ेगा। अब दो डब्बो से बेहतर है कि एक बड़ा डब्बा (सीपीयू) लगा लिया जाए। वैसे भी इस प्रोजेक्ट को होम मिनिस्ट्री की मंजूरी नही मिली है, कंही डब्बों के साथ हमको भी बाहर का रास्ता ना देखना पड़े।

अमित भाई, खून पसीने की कमाई है, । ये साल्यूशन बहुत हाई एंड है। कोई सस्ता सुंदर जुगाड़ बताओ। प्रोजक्ट एप्रूवल स्टेज पर ही फेल हो जाएगा या फिर मोहल्ले वालों से चंदा इकट्ठा करना पडे़गा।

आप सभी लोगों के सुझावों का शुक्रिया।

रमण भाई ने जो सोल्यूशन बता दिया है और उस पर मैने जो आईडिया दे दिया है चैलेन्ज से बोल रहा हूं इससे सस्ता सुन्दर टिकाऊ सोल्यूशन अभी दुनिया मे नही बना है! 

किसी प्राक्सी की जरूरत नही पडेगी.. क्या नेटफ़्लिक्स वहां बैन है! अगर आप पीसी पर नेटफ़्लिक्स देख सकते हो और उसे HDMI की मदद से टीवी तक पहुंचा सकते हो तो देट्स इट और क्या  बचा? ओसामा का फ़ोटो देखना?

Jitu bhai, if you look at it, its not that high end. :)

Still if you want, here's how you can cut it down a bit:

1. Cut down to an Intel i5 processor of about 2.5 Ghz with a turbo capability to approx 3.1Ghz (btw you can get a quad core in i5 as well).
2. Recommended RAM is 12GB but don't go below 8GB unless you are making this just for the sake of it.
3. For storage, if you don't want to spend on a NAS then go with 4x1TB Seagate Barracuda in a RAID 10 array. 10000rpm would be nice but 7200rpm would also do, not below that if you want to stream audio/video comfortably from it.
4. For Windows, get Professional instead of Ultimate, you shouldn't go below that if you want it on a LAN/WLAN without hassles.

Your main costs here would be Win7 & i5+mobo & then RAM. HDDs are dirt cheap these days so they won't blow a hole in your pocket.

If you still think this is overkill or a bit more than what you're willing to spend then don't bother making a media center streaming server; anything less & it won't be money well spent. In that case, just go for a decent configuration workstation with i5 dual core, 4GB RAM, 1x1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200rpm 'with Windows7 Professional.

Swami ji, what Jitu bhai meant to say is that services like Netflix, Hulu are officially available to only select geographic markets & not anywhere else. So these services block access by IPs & that's why the need for a VPN/Proxy to bypass their IP policing. Now if a box like Roku is to be used, it'll have to be connected to a PC which will let it access the internet through the tunnel created by the VPN so that its IP is not detected as the one issued by the original ISP but one which is put on by the VPN to get around the IP restrictions. :)

Jitu, Consider a refurbished DELL box - Don't get put off by the 'refurbished' - 2 friends got them and they're loving it.

Oh I see! Thanks for explaining Amit. So they don't get streaming due to stupid licensing issues - though the site is not banned! 

Yeah, precisely. Earlier I was able to watch some TV shows on Hulu but then afterwards they switched it off altogether. :)

& yeah, a box refurbished by Dell itself is also a good option. Just compare the price of what they're offering & how much it would cost to assemble your own with same config. :)
