Now, I know that it is possible as Photoshop CC manages to do it: I can move, zoom and rotate the canvas with my fingers as much as I want, and try and smudge with my fingers as much as I want, it won't draw, until the pen hits the screen...
That is a bit of a disappointment to be honest: coming from the tablet versions op Sketchbook, it was very intuitive to rotate and zoom into the canvas using pinch gestures etc, and they kinda work here on the desktop version as well, but half the time you end up drawing something (Because it doesn't recognize the 2nd finger in time?)
I do wonder tho: Programs like Photoshop manage to separate the input, what are they doing different? Is this something on the roadmap for SketchBook, as it would really make work so much more faster...
The gestures used to work fine in Windows 7, without drawing with the fingers. What has changed in Windows 10? Is this issue going to be solved? It is just that the gestures made it so much more intuitive to draw on Sketchbook.
I found the solution!! windows settings - devices - pen & windows ink - check 'ignore touch input when i'm using my pen'. This lets you rotate and select things in sketchbook, but won't draw anything. I used to get a lot of little dots from my palm, no more of that! Running on cintiq 22hd touch monitor.
While uninstalling an app can sometimes fix issues, it often does more harm than good. If you're having trouble with Sketchbook, please we are begging you reach out to us at sup...@sketchbook.com before uninstalling and reinstalling the app.
Android - uninstalling and reinstalling will delete your brush customizations, custom color palettes, your preferences, your Gallery organization, and any unsaved progress on an open canvas. Saved files will not be deleted by an uninstall/reinstall, you will be prompted to recover your Gallery after restarting the app.
iOS - WARNING! Uninstalling and reinstalling the app will delete everything including all your saved artwork. This data will not be recoverable without restoring your device from an earlier backup.
We are unable to update older versions of Autodesk SketchBook on desktop because the licenses are tied to Autodesk. These are still great apps though and you can continue to use them for as long as you like, however they cannot receive updates or bug fixes.
If you received Autodesk SketchBook as a pre-load on your Windows tablet, that version (5.x) was discontinued and cannot be redownload. Be aware that if your tablet is factory reset, the app will be deleted and cannot be reinstalled.
So I've recently downloaded the SketchBook app for windows and I had it about four times when SketchBook would just go into fullscreen mode (without me doing something particular i think) and I couldn't exit out of it. The only solution I could find was exiting SketchBook completely and then signing in again. However, this is a very annoying solution so I wanted to ask if there's another way?
Alright, so get this!
while navigating the app and this webpage, I accidentally logged out of the app. So, I signed back in, blah blah blah, and have been returning to the app frequently to see if I could get a screenshot of the recurring mishap.
It never came back! So maybe that's a reliable solution?! Sure hope so!
OK, PSYCH......
Didn't last. Here's the mishap. pardon the teeth, but notice the absence of the un-fullscreen button...intentional fullscreenunintentional fullscreen and silly picture please forgive
hi same issue. you can only exit and relaunch the app - which is frustrating (and can't undo). Yes, you can also minimize/maximize. I just got a surface pro 6 four days ago and this has happens more and more using sketchbook. Please help
I've done that twice now and it is only getting more and more common. I have realized it occurs when when I use the eyedropper (not every time). I use that tool and then after selecting a color the icons never come back and looks like the screenshot from the person above
ctrl alt J didn't work for me
EDIT: Hey! I dont know what the J is for, but ctrl alt is the color sampler, I use a touch screen laptop and I saw this when I dragged my finger around trying to see what ctrl alt J might possibly do. Sharing this so newbs like me who read this post catch on!
The Time-Lapse Record feature for the mobile apps is brilliant. Why not offer that with the more powerful Windows versions? I know there are screen-cast recorders out there like Autodesk Screencast, but that requires a 3rd party app, and a lot of video editing afterwards. Having it built right into the app, and recording only when you are making strokes on the canvas is a much more eloquent, efficient and effective option. I'm finding that using 3rd party options is really hindering and getting in the way my art. It is a daunting discouragement.
i really don't understand why time lapse recording would not be available to the more professional artists that use Surface Pro's and styluses for their art. This is essential to show followers your progress and how you accomplished certain things. Please add it to Windows 10 version!!
This is a feature I would LOVE to have. I already prefer making my art here over photoshop and I would love for all my stroke history or something to be recorded to a file to be able to export a video out of or something.
It's an amazing feature and such a shame it's not available on the more robust platform like windows 10. I'd be willing to pay some money just to have it added to the tool list. Love the application in any case; great work.
^Agree with all above. I would LOVE this time lapse recording feature to be available when using this program on Windows PC with a stylus tablet. I love the time lapse feature a lot on my mobile device with another similar drawing program I use (Infinite Painter). Not having that when I go to use Sketchbook on my Windows PC is the only thing that is a bit of a bummer. It'd be a dream come true if it'd become available in the near future!
I bought a Surface specifically because I expected it to run the Sketchbook timelapse recording that I've used on my Samsung Note tablets that have finally died. I thought that with more power and capabilites the new tablet would work even better with Autodesk Sketchbook... Please bring it to Windows. (And maybe some of the streamline interface options too.) And I love the product. It's been the best out there for what I do.
I just ran into this problem and it is very frustrating that the screen recording feature is not available in the desktop Windows PC. I really liked Sketchbook properties of the painting brushes, it looks like a real oil painting. It works differently in Photoshop. I've also been considering Krita for digital painting. They have announced a time-lapse screen recording feature for the painting process in version 5.0, which is coming out soon. The recording features are the same as in the mobile Sketchbook where the recording goes while you're drawing.
Krita sees the file and allows me to load it both on my Galaxy Tab 7fe and on the Windows 11 version but it loads as a single blank layer instead of the 7 proper layers. When I import back into sketchbook on my tablet it works correctly.
I ended up using a 7 day trial of sketchbook on my pc to get it done. I saved it as a PSD and my Windows 11 version opens the file just fine but the Android one all the photos are blank or mostly blank with colored lines running through them.
So I'm brand new to Arduino and I get this message every time I try and open the newest software version (0022): "Arduino cannot run because it could not create a folder to store your sketchbook." I have deleted and reinstalled everything several times, tried passed versions of the software, and nothing works. Still haven't gotten the program to open. Please help! I have a secret knock gumball machine just waiting to come to life! Thanks.
Thanks for the reply. I'm pretty novice with all this stuff, so please anyone correct me if I'm wrong. As far as I can tell, Mac doesn't have a administrator mode. Under the Accounts area of my preferences it has me listed as the admin, so it looks fine to me. When I go to "get info" upon right-clicking my applications folder it says "you can read and write". So, things being as they are, I don't even know what to try and change. Any other ideas?
Actually, I didn't unzip anything when I downloaded the Arduino software. It came as a .dmg that simply has the Arduino icon, my applications folder, and a driver that I apparently don't need because I'm using the UNO (I tried anyway after a while and it changed nothing). You drag the Arduino icon over into the applications folder, it copies real quick, and that's it. When I search my computer as a whole and the files within the Arduino software (by right-clicking and selecting "show package contents") there is nothing named sketch or sketchbook anywhere.
Another note... I've come across several people writing in a location for the sketchbook in the preference.txt file manually. I haven't found anything that works, but I couldn't help but notice that there is nothing in the preference folder that has "sketch" or "sketchbook" mentioned. Wouldn't the location of the sketchbook folder be mentioned in the preference code? Does anyone know how to manually fix this on a mac? Am I even on the right path here?
Look in the /Libraries/Arduino for the preferences.txt. It should have a sketchbook.path line; maybe it points to a folder that doesn't exist? You can either delete the whole preferences.txt or try to manually edit that line to point to a folder that does exist (e.g. make one called "Arduino" in your Documents folder).
Fixed it! My documents folder (which is where Arduino tries to write the sketchbook folder) was set on "read only". There was never any sketchbook line of code in the preferences - not sure why that is, but oh well. Thanks again for your help. Sorry it was such a basic fix.
