After you upgrade to Windows 10, you can reinstall or do a clean installation on the same device. You won't need a product key to reactivate Windows 10 on the same hardware. For more info on how to create your own Windows 10 installation media, see the Microsoft software download website.
During the upgrade, you might be asked to free up space on your device or attach an external drive with sufficient space to continue with the upgrade. If you attach an external drive, make sure to keep it in a safe place after the upgrade in case you need it for recovery options.
If you are running Windows 10 today, you can check to see if your device is eligible (i.e., meets the minimum system requirements for Windows 11) to upgrade using the PC Health Check app. You can then check to see if Windows 11, version 22H2 is ready for your specific device by opening Windows Update settings (Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update) and selecting Check for updates3,4. If your device is eligible and the upgrade is ready, the option to download and install will appear: If you are ready to install Windows 11, simply select Download and install5,6. It should be noted that if you have a Windows 7 or 8 Home license, you can only update to Windows 10 Home, while Windows 7 or 8 Pro can only be updated to Windows 10 Pro. (The upgrade is not available for Windows Enterprise. Other users may experience blocks as well, depending on your machine.) In the OOBE, you can press SHIFT-F10 to open a console. I believe that Changepk.exe can be used to upgrade from Home to Pro given the right key. Will this work from the command line in the OOBE? It would save a lot of faff with unnecessary local accounts.
I want to thank you. I work for a small business. Well, not super small anymore, we have 80 employees now. But we were only 4 3 years ago. Your trick really saved me a ton of time. I am so grateful!!! I am going to be using this trick for years to come. I setup 5-10 computers a month. We have pro keys but honestly it was more work entering them than your quick trick. I built an Azure active directory and use intune to keep all the computers organized. Your method instantly adds the new computer to my dashboard. This process took so much work before.
If your existing Windows 10 PC is running the most current version of Windows 10 and meets the minimum hardware specifications it will be able to upgrade to Windows 11. The upgrade rollout plan is still being finalized, but for most devices already in use today, we expect it to be ready sometime in early 2022. I have only been using MAK Volume License keys here, but are you trying to apply the Win2012 Server license against Server 2019? Those are distinct keys for me and I had to apply the newer license to the upgraded server.
If you are using Bitlocker, you probably made some changes to the partitions right before installing Ubuntu (like freeing up unallocacted space for the Ubuntu installation), then you may get that problem because GRUB cannot deal with the security prompt that appears when starting windows that asks you for the bitlocker recovery key.
Salvation came from using Hiren's Boot CD and using the Boot Windows 7 option in the main menu therein, which allowed me to get to the prompt for the bitlocker recovery key, enter the key, suspend and resume bitlocker in my windows session, and use my dual boot system as intended afterwards.
Nowtry booting from the USB, and see if you get the altered menu item,and that it works. When the USB boot is working, you may simply goto /boot/efi/EFI/Boot, which should be the hard disk's EFI partition, andit should contain copies (possibly with different names) of the Ubuntuversions of the boot files, which should also be in /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu.
Use md5sum to confirm that you have copies of all files which are in /boot/efi/EFI/Boot, because you are going to delete them! Copy andrename the file /boot/efi/EFI/Microsoft/bootxmgfw.efi to /boot/efi/EFI/Boot/bootx64.efiand you should be able to boot windows from the hard disk again -- removethe stick and try the Windows boot.
All the options that you have tried seem to be for Windows 8 in mbr mode,but you are using UEFI, so you should repair UEFI partition; when my windows bootloader got corrupted,i tried the following command.
PS.If you have not already tried, then you could try all the options displayed in your grub menu, particularly refind, which automatically detects all UEFI OS.You could also try all the windows entries in the grub menu to check if any one of them works.Then you could switch your uefi mode to BIOS from your BIOS menu at system startup and then checkout what options its displaying there, and if any of them work.
