Today, with offices around the world, we trade virtually every major financial product and are recognized for our disciplined and quantitative trading approach, and our leading-edge trading systems.  Technology plays an integral role in driving our business, and we are currently seeking a Systems Administrator for our Data Center.

Here at SIG, we work with the most up-to-date technologies, and in this hands-on role, you will gain exposure to our diverse technical environments.  As a Data Center Systems Administrator, you will work in the Command Center of SIG’s on-site data center providing support for our server and network environments.  Additionally, you will utilize a variety of tools to monitor systems and respond to problems and outages in a timely manner.  Our entrepreneurial environment will allow you to assist management in identifying areas for possible automation and improvements to our problem resolution protocols.

Required hours for this role 3rd shift hours (10:00pm to 9:00am) 11 hours / 4 days per week with additional shifts and hours required as necessary. Our Data Center Operations Team is charged with delivering high quality 24 x 7 x 365 technical support services, execution of data center operational tasks and monitoring for critical data center and enterprise systems.

Functions:

  • Monitor and provide 1st level support for all critical systems, including computer, network, server and facilities systems, within SIG's data centers
  • Maintain and resolve change, problem, request (CPR) system queues
  • Ensure data center operations standards are maintained and supported including monitoring of rules, policies, and alarms
  • Maintain job scheduling & run books
  • Work with HP Service Desk and the Production release process
  • Maintain and support SIG’s backup & tape environment
  • Involvement in the server build process including hardware burn-in, imaging and rack-mounting
  • Implement cabling to support installations
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve user and system problems in a timely and efficient manner with minimal impact on trading activity; escalate as required
  • Provide controlled, supervised access to the data centers for all firm staff, vendors and 3rd party technicians
  • Assist in the testing and rollout of new software; modify files, system parameters and user configurations
  • Provide off-hours support through participation in an on-call team rotation

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelors degree required; experience can substitute for education
  • Minimum of two (2) years of proven experience in working with operating systems (Solaris, Windows, Linux) file systems and system hardware
  • Must be able to resolve system and service problems in a timely manner
  • Must be a self starter with strong communication and customer service skill
  • Ability to troubleshoot systems and applications in a timely manner required
  • Experience handling multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment as an individual contributor or team member necessary
  • Programming experience or scripting experience (PERL, UNIX shell scripts) necessary
  • Familiarity with Oracle, SQL or other database technologies a plus
  • Knowledge of financial markets, products and/or market data is a plus
