Hello

I know I haven't even been to a meeting yet, but Dan and I meet at the Transmedia group, and I work with/play in many of Andy Ashcraft's games. I hope to be more present at the meetings as best I can this year.

I wanted to extend an invitation to you all for an upcoming interactive convention:
Two Wyrd
(Wyrd Con II)
June 10-12, 2011
At the Hilton Hotel in Costa Mesa, just off the 405 near John Wayne Airport

This year, I am on staff, and I lobbied to have a presence of pervasive games, ARGs, Transmedia, etc., and got my wish.

There is room for you to run events, either academic panels or presentations, how-to educational workshops, or games.
Or, just come down and play with us!

Tickets are $60 for the weekend, but enter the code WYRDCON and you'll get $10 off (so $50 for the weekend, Friday to Sunday).

If you run four hours of events or more, you plus one get in free.
For every four hours thereafter, you get another free badge.
If you run more than 12 hours of events, you get a free hotel room. But events are filling in fast, I'm not sure anyone will be able to get a full 12 in.

If you want to do an event, fill out the designer submission form here ASAP (you can tweak the details later): http://wyrdcon.com/wp/vendors-designers/designer-submissions/

The Hilton is offering discounts to attendees, so the rooms are $109 a night, plus taxes. Book them here for the discount.

This year, I am trying to get some very special guests to attend, but I won't say anything until they confirm. But I think you'll be very interested in hearing from them.
Last year's guests were authors Larry Niven & Steven Barnes, who wrote the novel "Dream Park" which inspired the IFGS, one of the first larp groups, to form.
We also had Houses of the Blooded creator John Wick in attendance.

Finally, Wyrd Con is putting out an academic e-book (PDF) in association with the convention, and they're open for submissions.
You do not need to register for the con to submit an academic paper to the e-book.
There is no pay, but you retain copyright to the essay.

Details on the academic book are here

I want to mention the theme of the book/conference part of the convention this year:

=== 1. Theme and Deadline ===
The theme for 2011 is “Convergence of Interactive Theater.” Interactive Theater is the concept where both the audience and actors are both part of the performance. Activities such as Live Action Role Playing, also known as LARP, is one such theater concept having been around for decades. However it is only recently gaining popularity in the United States. Others such as ARGs (also known as Alternate Reality Games), or even Live Simulations are also included. All articles should tie into this theme in some way, shape or form.
The deadline for submissions is April 20, 2011.

If you want more info, or have any questions or comments, please let me know. I'll be running at least one, maybe two games at the con, as will other members of the Live Game Labs (formerly Enigma Live Game Labs).

Save June 10-12 to come down and play in Orange County!

Cheers!

Aaron

I mentioned this at the meeting. Could you cross post to the Facebook group too?
