NEXT EVENT

Our next monthly ball will be the Star Wars Ball on June 7, 2025.

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, there was a grand ball…

Senator Mon Mothma requests the pleasure of your company at the social event of the Season. Join us for a splendid science fiction/fantasy ball inspired by the Star Wars universe, with music by the amazing Avalon Rising. Our venue is the Grand Ballroom and Salon of the historic Alameda Elks Lodge, a historic building perfect for a fantasy ball that will make you feel like you’re in a grand ballroom in the grand metropolis of downtown Coruscant!

Costumes inspired by the “Star Wars” universe - cinematic, television, or literary- are very welcome. Indeed, Science Fiction or Fantasy Costumes from any universe - past, present, or future - are welcome: whether you are Warring among the Stars or Trekking among them; whether you are a Time Lord, a Space Cowboy, a member of the Serenity crew, or a Guardian of the Galaxy, you are welcome! Steampunk attire, or vintage or modern evening dress is also appropriate – as long as you can dance in it.

And the dance music will indeed be out of this world! After the 7pm vintage ballroom dance lesson, the celebrated Renaissance Rock band Avalon Rising plays an evening of vintage ballroom dance music, Celtic and Celtic fusion rock, highly danceable science fiction and fantasy-inspired songs, and more! No partners needed for either the dance lesson or the ball itself. and all set dances will be taught and called.

Senator Mon Mothma’s staff will be serving a light snack buffet, and our usual excellent No Host bar will be available for most of the evening.

And May the Force Be with You!

Tickets are $35 until June 6.
Ticket sales end on June 6.

Tickets sold in advance only. Tickets will not be available at the door.

Tickets can be purchased at the ball's website at
https://www.peersdance.org/starwars.html

NEXT EVENT

There will not be a monthly dance in July, due to the July 4th Weekend.

Our next monthly event will be the Alameda 1910 Afternoon Picnic Dance in the Park, on August 2, 2025.

Location: Lincoln Park
1450 High Street, Alameda (Near the Rose Garden)
Suggested Set-Up Time: 10:00 am (or earlier for the best picnic spots)
Picnic Luncheon begins: 11:00 am
Formal Dancing: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Pack a picnic basket, don your most fetching hat, and join us for an elegant Edwardian picnic among the roses in Old Alameda, followed by a vintage dance with live music by the celebrated Greenwich Mean Time band.

Late Victorian or Edwardian costume is admired but not required. As the August weather in Alameda can be very changeable, we recommend hats, shawls and parasols.

The event is not a general potluck. Please bring your OWN picnic lunch. As there are only a couple of picnic tables in the Rose Garden side of the park guests may want to bring blankets to sit on or even chairs and tables. Period-looking picnic furniture and accoutrements are very welcome and add ambience to the event!

In the afternoon between 1 and 4 pm, our celebrated historical dance band, Greenwich Mean Time, will play a variety of popular vintage ballroom dance music, ranging from beautiful waltzes and polkas to the latest Ragtime music (one-steps, two-steps, and the Castle Schottische) and the new tango from Argentina.

The event is absolutely free - our way of thanking our loyal supporters and of welcoming newcomers - but cash tips to our wonderful and very hard-working band are very much appreciated!

You can make donations to the band at our website

NEXT EVENT

Our next monthly ball will be the Great Gatsby Ball on Saturday, September 6, 2025.

Join us for a swinging 1920's dance party, inspired by F. Scott Fitzgerald’s most famous novel, “The Great Gatsby.” The Oaktown Strutters will play dance music ranging from romantic waltzes, fox trots, and tangos to cool blues, hot Swing and that new dance sensation, the Charleston. There's something for everyone at Jay Gatsby’s grand ball.

At 7 pm, there will be a pre-ball workshop in One-Step, Slow Foxtrot, and East Coast Swing. Formal dancing continues from 8 pm to midnight with the fabulous Sara & Swingtime. No partners required! This is a great way to polish up your dance skills or to get some extra practice for next week’s Art Deco Society Gatsby Picnic.

1920’s or ‘30’s costume or vintage or modern evening dress is admired but not required. White tie or black tie optional. Socialites, show people, artists, and even politicians and underworld types are welcome but leave your "pieces" at home. This is a classy event! (And, besides, the Chief of Police never misses one of Mr. Gatsby’s parties!).

There will be a light snack buffet in the parlor, and (in defiance of Prohibition) a no-host (cash) bar outside the ballroom. Don’t worry: Both our Governor and the Chief of Police are good friends of Jay Gatsby!

Full details on the ball are available website at  https://www.peersdance.org/gatsby.html

Tickets may be purchased at the same link.

Dance 19th Century waltzes, polkas, mazurka waltzes, quadrilles, and set dances and mixers. All pattern dances will be taught and called.

WEEKLY DANCE CLASS

Our next weekly dance class will take place on Tuesday, August 12.

The newcomer friendly class runs from 7 to 8, followed by a more advanced class from 8 to 9.

Dance classes are held at the Alameda Elks Lodge at 2255 Santa Clara Avenue in Alameda. Classes are $10 for the full evening.

Note: All levels of dance experience are welcome but inexperienced dancers are strongly advised not to attempt the 8:00 pm class without taking the 7:00 pm Newcomer class that precedes it.

If you have questions, feel free to email us at pe...@peersdance.org

Note: If an emergency or scheduling conflict requires us to cancel a particular week's class, we will list this information on this page and on our Facebook invitation and Facebook Group Page.

This rarely happens but it's always a good idea to double check either our website at www.peersdance, org or our Facebook page on the day of the class.

More details on the dance class may be found at
https://peersdance.org/classes.html

LOOKING AHEAD

Our October ball will be the Haunted Mansion Ball, on October 4, 2025.

Welcome, foolish mortals, to the Haunted Mansion for an evening of haunting Victorian ballroom dance music by our favorite ghostly brass band, Franklin Beau Davis and The Brassworks. The Brassworks is well-known for their  brilliant arrangements of some of the spookiest classical Halloween music we've ever heard! Dance 19th Century waltzes, polkas, mazurka waltzes, quadrilles, and set dances and mixers. All pattern dances will be taught and called. Venue is the beautiful and allegedly haunted Alameda Elks Lodge!

https://peersdance.org/haunted.html

And while it is not until November, tickets are on sale for our annual Le Bal des Vampires, taking place on November 1, 2025. This is our biggest event of the year, and always sells out well in advance.

OUR NEXT EVENT

Our next monthly ball will be Le Bal des Vampires on November 1, 2025.

Waltz the night away in a beautiful Edwardian ballroom with the San Francisco Bay Area's most glamorous Undead at the 30th Annual Le Bal des Vampires.

Suggested costume is evening dress of the century and country of your "rebirth." This may include dress uniform, period costume (authentic or fantasy) or vintage or modern evening dress. There is no dress code for the ball (We certainly don't expect Spike to attend in black tie!), but you will see some of the most gorgeous and creative costumes of the social season at Le Bal des Vampires.
This year there will once again be simultaneous dancing on two separate floors:

Our band in the elegant upstairs ballroom is the stylish but always dashing chamber ensemble Greenwich Mean Time. As usual, haunting waltzes dominate the program, but the evening will feature a variety of dance music from across the centuries - from 18th century Baroque contredanses to 19th century Victorian rotary and Viennese waltzes, polkas, and mazurkas; to elegant early 20th century tangos, blues, and fox trots and even some classic rock and roll Swing.

For those preferring a more modern style of dance music and free-style dancing join us downstairs at the Nightfall Club (located in the hall's atmospheric Ratskeller) for a wonderfully varied repertoire of dark music to stir the blood and spirit from 7:00 p.m. to Midnight. Hosted by our remarkable DJ, Persephone, Nightfall also features a no-host (cash) bar.  For those interested in dining before the ball there are a variety of restaurants within easy walking distance of the Lodge, especially on nearby Park Street

Guests may also enjoy quiet conversation, Tarot readings, and photography opportunities in the Lodge's elegant but comfortable Edwardian Parlor with its Baroque décor.

There will be light refreshments for our mortal guests and a no host (cash) bar.

Our 30th Le Bal des Vampires will be a night to remember. We suggest ordering your tickets early!

Full details on the ball are available website at

Tickets may be purchased at the same link.

WEEKLY DANCE CLASS

Our next weekly dance class will take place on Tuesday, October 7.

Note: If an emergency or scheduling conflict requires us to cancel a particular week's class, we will list this information on this page and on our Facebook invitation and Facebook Group Page.

LOOKING AHEAD

Our regular monthly dances will begin again in 2026 with the Victorian 12th Night Ball on January 3, 2026.

Dance, sing, and play as we bring the holiday season to a close at a delightful old-fashioned Victorian party, in the style made famous in Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol.

Greenwich Mean Time, the Bay Area's most irresistible country dance band, will play a variety of Viennese and rotary waltzes, polkas, mazurka waltzes, schottisches, reels, and other set dances popular in the early and mid-19th century. As usual, all set dances will be taught or called.

There will be an introductory dance class in Victorian ballroom dance at 7 pm followed by formal dancing from 8pm to midnight

Suggested costume is evening or day dress from 1837 through 1870 (the heyday of Dickens' literary career), any class. Modern evening dress is, as always, a completely acceptable substitute for period costume, and there is no dress code for the evening. If you're wearing a ball gown or evening gown, please be sure to bring a wrap since the ballroom will be cold before the dancing starts. Once we start dancing, the ballroom warms up beautifully!

Light refreshments and our usual excellent No Host (cash) bar will be available to guests.

THE JANE AUSTEN BALL

April 4, 2026

Join us for an elegant assembly ball set in the world of Jane Austen.

Greenwich Mean Time, capital in their country dances, will play English country dances popular in the time of Jane Austen as well as some earlier country dance classics and a number of exquisite early 19th waltzes.  And, of course, we will dance the wildly popular Congress of Vienna Waltz and Sir Roger de Coverley.

Don't know a hey for four from an allemande? Never fear! There will be a pre-ball workshop in Regency country dance from 7 to 8pm, and all country dances will be briefly taught and called.

Late 18th century, early 19th century Regency (1811-1820) or Romantic era costume is admired, but not required, and modern evening dress is a perfectly acceptable alternative to period costume. Costumes and characters from both Jane Austen’s novels and films and the popular TV series “Bridgerton” are very welcome.
