b 1859; entered R. N. 1873, became Lieut. 1882, Com. 1894, Capt. 1901, Rear-Adm. 1910, Vice- Adm 1916, and Adm. 1919; retired
1921; served with Vitu Punitive Expedition 1890 (despatches , medal with clasp), in Crete 1904- 05, and during European War 1914- 19
as Rear- Adm. Patrol Area , Vice- Adm. Comdg Atlantic Blockade, and Adm. Northern Patrol ( Com. Legion of Honour); was Dep.
Commr., W. Pacific when in command of Pylades 1899- 1901, Assist. Director of Naval ordinance 1902- 03, Naval A.D.C. to H M
