Yesterday the House of Lords agreed to a motion "that notwithstanding the practice of the House on introductions, a Peer who has sat in the House as an excepted hereditary peer pursuant to section 2 of the House of Lords Act 1999 may sit by virtue of a life peerage without introduction".
Today all three of the excepted hereditary peers recently created life peers (Lord Addington/Lord Hubbard, the Earl of Kinnoull/Lord Kinnoull of of the Ochils, Earl Russell/Lord Russell of Forest Hill) were sworn in at the start of business.
Although they could have continued to sit for what remains of this session, presumably re-taking the oath now ensures that they can attend the State Opening on 13 May.
