From the Telegraph of 19 May 2014: ABEL SMITH  Timothy Charles peacefully at Gate on 17th May, 2014, aged 77 years. Much loved husband of Maureen. Funeral Service at the Parish Church of St. Andrew, Dent, on Thursday, 29th May at 3.00 p.m. Enquiries to J..J. Martin, Long Lane, Sedbergh.

He was s of Capt Ralph Richard ABEL SMITH (1903-97), sion of that gentry of Woodhall Park, and Olive Moreton (1905-70) d of James Hainsworth ISMAY (1867-1930), scion of that gentry family formerly of Dawlpool and his 2nd wife a scion of the DUCIE earls. He m 1965 Maureen Elizabeth (b 1938) d of George Brown KELLY formerly of Kakajan, Assam, India, and Adeline Bryson MACLEAN. No issue.

He shared a common Abel Smith ancestry with many members of the British peerage and gentry. To name but three of his numerous connections: The QUEEN and the Duchess of GRAFTON were his 5th cousins and he was Sir Henry ABEL SMITH'S 3rd cousin once removed. The latter of course was the son-in-law of Princess Alice Countess of Athlone (gd of Queen VICTORIA). I could list many, many, many more connections, but they'll all be obvious to you and are easily found elsewhere, so won't clutter up our website with them!
