Sir Jocelyn Edward Greville Stevens, Knt ,CVO (aged 76), the publisher
and former English Heritage boss, and a royal courtier, former husband
of Jane (Janie) Sheffield (of the baronets) is to marry Emma Cheape,
nee Tennant (aged 54), next month, according to Richard Kay

Cheape is the former Emma Tennant, daughter of landowner Iain
Tennant. She was married 1979 to 1979 Angus Cheape, an Edinburgh
estate agent, by whom she has a son Henry Cheape, aged 28, a friend of
Prince William. According to Richard Kay, she was still married to
Cheape, when she met Sir Jocelyn.

His first marriage to Janie Sheffield, a lady in waiting to Princess
Margaret (like his sister Prudence, now Lady Penn) lasted 23 years and
ended in 1979. His daughter Pandora Stevens (now Pandora Delevigne,
head of personal shopping at Selfridges, aged about 48) is married to
property developer Charles Delevigne; their daughters include society
beauty Chloe Buckworth (aged 24) and actress Poppy Delevigne (aged
22). A third daughter Cara, aged 16, remains at home with her parents

Princess Alexandra and the late Sir Angus Ogilvy were among the guests
at her 1979 wedding to Angus Cheape, who runs the exclusive Langley-
Taylor estate agency in Edinburgh.

The Cheapes have a son, Henry, 25, a friend of Prince William who
rented a farmhouse to Wills during his third year at St Andrews
University. The Cheapes were invited to the Queen Mother's 100th
birthday party at Windsor Castle.

Last night a devastated Mr Cheape, who is descended from the White
Star shipping family which owned the Titanic, said of the affair:
"She's my wife. It's no one else's business. Obviously, it's a shock."

But now the secret is out. Strathtyrum House - the occasional home of
the Queen's friends the Cheape family - will be the young heir's base
during his four years of study. The stately home affords spectacular
views of the Old Course. Clay pigeon shooting is available on request
and from the nearby stables the young prince can go galloping across
Tentamuir beach where the film "Chariots of Fire" was filmed.

The library on the ground floor will provide a tranquil setting for
the young student to leaf through art history volumes, and when he
needs a break the prince can chill out with his new student chums in
the billiard room on the lower ground floor. For more formal
gatherings he can entertain his chosen circle of friends in the
mansion's splendid public rooms hung with family portraits and
furnished with antiques and period furniture. They will be received in
the main hall and sip champagne by open fires in the huge drawing room
before feasting in the sumptuous formal dining room.

But while Strathtyrum is undoubtedly a student pad fit for a prince it
also offers the security essential for a future king. The magnificent
18th-century mansion is set in private landscaped grounds at the edge
of the town, opposite the golf links and West Sands but totally
screened by trees, woods and 18-foot high lodge gates.

Following the announcement that Prince Andrew is to be Captain of the
Royal and Ancient Golf Club in 2004 this is the mansion that the
royals will use as their St Andrews base. While Prince William is in
the town for four years studying, Prince Andrew will be the sixth
member of the royal family to be Captain of St Andrews Royal and
Ancient Golf Club.

Yesterday a member of the R&A said: "Strathtyrum would be the perfect
base for both Prince William and Prince Andrew who became a member of
the R&A eight years ago and is also a member of the club's Amateur
Status Committee.

"From a security point of view it would be ideal for Prince William
and it would give Prince Andrew a home in the town for the duration of
his captaincy."

Strathtyrum is owned by the wealthy Cheape family who are close to the
royals and were among the guests invited to the glittering royal
birthday party celebrations this summer at Windsor Castle.

The have also been synonymous with the game of golf ever since St
Andrews began to emerge as Scotland's leading centre for the game at
the beginning of the 19th century.

The story began in 1801 when George Cheape of Strathtyrum, the captain
of the Society of St Andrews Golfers, complained to the Court of
Session that rabbits were destroying the links. Legal permission was
then given for the locals to cull the rabbits and so-called Rabbit
Wars continued until 1821 when the Cheape family bought the famous
links.

The course was later sold to the R&A in September 1893 for #5000 - a
move which infuriated the town's council and led to the Links Act of
1894 which placed the home of golf back into public ownership.

In 1897 another Cheape, James, married Lady Griselda Johanna Helen
Ogilvy, the youngest daughter of the Earl of Airlie, a powerful Angus
aristocrat who enjoyed close links with the royal family. A great
nephew of the family, Angus Ogilvy, brother of the present earl,
married Princess Alexandra in 1963. Friends of the Cheapes say that
this connection, together with the fact that a branch of the family
lives in Angus, has brought them into the orbit of the royal family -
until recently the Earl of Airlie was controller of the Royal
Household - and that this might have been a factor in the decision to
use Strathtyrum as a bolt hole for Prince William.

The family also used to have their own private tee-off times for the
Old Course - the only people in the world guaranteed a round of golf
on the hallowed fairways. These rights were bought out in 1993 for
#275,000 by the Links Trust after fears that they could fall into
Japanese hands.

Speaking from Strathtyrum, Henry Cheape confirmed that the family home
was "available to rent by arrangement" and added: "I don't think I
want to comment on this. It is a matter for the royal family."

STUDENTS will be able to rent the home where Prince William lived
during his uni years.

The house, on the Strathtyrum Estate in St Andrews, is owned by Henry
Cheape, 24. He is a distant cousin of the Prince, who inherited the
property from an elderly relative when he was 18.

According to Richard Kay, Sir Jocelyn Stevens has now married Emma
Cheape, nee Tennant
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1089824/RICHARD-KAY-Piranha-catch-day.html
last Wednesday
(which was November 26?)

"Instead of a church, the couple chose their wedding venue [in
Croydon] from the internet - a charming white-painted former barn
called Oaks Farm, which is a popular destination for hen and stag
nights. And rather than replicate his grand honeymoon in New York and
Jamaica with the former Jane Sheffield, Sir Jocelyn and his new bride
have decided to remain at home."

Details of the first very grand wedding are listed at the beginning of
the article - 13 bridesmaids, 15 ushers, and 850 guests. It was
apparently the society event of 1956

The 70 guests at the low-key wedding included

a) the Earl of Snowdon
b) royal photographer Sir Geoffrey Shakerley, who is married to the
Queen's cousin Lady Elizabeth Anson, and
c) banker Sir Evelyn de Rothschild, who was the unofficial best man
and proposed the wedding toast to the couple.

Not sure if the couple's children - one son for her - and
grandchildren (at least three granddaughters for him) attended the
wedding.

I wonder what his former partner (of 25+ years - until they separated
in 2005) Dame Vivien Duffield thinks of this. They lived together for
that entire time but remained unmarried.
