In messages on this group as recently as 2018 ("Baronetcies to which succession has not been proved") the Smith of Eardiston Baronetcy became dormant in 2000, presumably with the death of Christopher Sydney Winwood Smith (1906-2000), called the 5th Bt.

However, Debrett's 2011 says that his line was actually the result of a bigamous marriage, and that the title actually became extinct in 1993, the last three de jure Baronets likely not even knowing that they were entitled to it.

Debrett's says that this was acknowledged by the Registrar of the Baronetage in 2008.

Does the most recent Debrett's agree with this?

Here is the genealogy:

Thanks! I take it that these most recent editions agree with the 2011 edition that the title became extinct in 1993?

The long (four paragraph) note which appeared in the 2015 edition of Debrett's  - presumably this is the same note that appeared in the 2011 edition (I don't have this) - is omitted in the 2019 edition which simply states in the heading "Dormant or extinct 1993" but maybe that's because the position is explained in the previous edition.  The Official Roll lists the baronetcy as Dormant

Thanks again, and sorry for so many questions, but does the Official Roll list it as dormant since 1993? or since 2000?

The 2018 posting I mentioned says it was dormant since 2000, implying that it belonged to the branch now believed to be bigamous; on the other hand, Debrett's, as you point out, uses 1993 as the "dormant or extinct" date, supporting the title going to the de jure Baronets.

Thanks!

The Official Roll only lists the fact that a baronetcy is dormant or extinct - it doesn't give a "date from".  However there is a document "Unclaimed 31Dec17" under the "No Succession proved" tab which states that the baronetcy has been dormant since the death of the 5th Baronet in 2000 but I don't think that is an official document
