She was born Jean Constance ASQUITH on 6 November 1921, dau of Brigadier-General Hon Arthur Melland ASQUITH 1883-1939 (3rd s of 1st EARL of OXFORD and ASQUITH KG KC 1852-1928 (also f of the LP BARONESS ASQUITH of YARNBURY 1887-1969 and the Law LP BARON ASQUITH of BISHOPSTONE 1890-1954, and gf of 2nd EARL OF OXFORD and ASQUITH 1916-2011)) by his 1918 m to Hon Betty Constance MANNERS 1889-1962 dau of 3rd BARON MANNERS 1852-1927 by his 1885 m to Constance Edwina Adeline HAMLYN-FANE 1861-1920 dau of Col Henry Edmund HAMLYN-FANE né FANE 1817-68 (gt gs of 8th EARL of WESTMORLAND 1701-71) by his 1850 m to Susan Hester 1824-69 dau of Sir James HAMLYN WILLIAMS 3rd and final Bt (GB 1795) 1790-1861 by his 1823 m to Lady Mary FORTESCUE 1792-1874 dau of 1st EARL FORTESCUE 1753-1841.

She m 1945 Lawrence Leif 1922-2002 s of Prof Arnold Joseph TOYNBEE CH FBA 1889-1975 by his 1st 1913 m (diss 1946) to Rosalind 1890-1967 dau of Prof (George) Gilbert Aimé MURRAY OM FBA 1866-1957 by his 1889 m to Lady Mary Henrietta HOWARD 1865-1956 dau of 9th EARL of CARLISLE 1843-1911 by his 1864 m to Hon Rosalind Frances STANLEY 1845-1921 dau of 2nd BARON STANLEY of ALDERLEY 1802-69 by his 1826 m to Hon Henrietta Maria DILLON-LEE 1807-95 dau of 13th VISCOUNT DILLON 1777-1832, etc.

Jean and Lawrence TOYNBEE had six daughters, the eldest of whom, Rosalind Catherine TOYNBEE b 1946, by her 1st 1972 m to Joe PENNYBACKER d 1994, is the mother of Dr Thomas Rupert Blaise PENNYBACKER b 1975, who m in 2003 Lady Flora Mary McDONNELL b (Nov) 1963 dau of 9th EARL of ANTRIM 1935-2021 by his 1st (Feb) 1963 m (diss 1974) to Sarah Elizabeth Anne b 1941 gd of Vyvyan George HARMSWORTH 1881-1957 8th s of Alfred HARMSWORTH 1837-89 (also f of 1st and only VISCOUNT NORTHCLIFFE 1865-1922, 1st VISCOUNT ROTHERMERE 1868-1940, 1st BARON HARMSWORTH 1869-1948, Sir Robert Leicester HARMSWORTH 1st Bt (UK 1918) 1870-1937, and Sir Hildebrand Aubrey HARMSWORTH 1st Bt (UK 1922) 1872-1929).
