The engagement is announced between George, son of Mr and Mrs Mark Bentinck, of Godshill Wood, Hampshire, and Merve, daughter of the late Bay Ali Aygin and of Bayan Aygin, of Ankara, Turkey.

George is a descendant of the 6th Baron Bentinck (Netherlands), and by extension a scion of the Portlands & etc.

If it is a Dutch title, doesn't the appellation 'baron' descend ad infinitum to to all direct male descendants or the original grantee? Hence Baron George Bentinck son of Baron and Baroness Mark Bentinck!

Yes; but the senior holder of the title is Mark, Baron Bentinck, and a junior member of the family is Baron Mark Bentinck. Much the same system occurs in Germany and Austria.

Could the prospective groom be George William Brian (b 1983)? Son of Maj [Baron] Vivian Mark BENTINCK (b 1945 for whom HH PRINCESS HELENA VICTORIA stood sponsor), who is descended from BERNARD, BARON BENTINCK Lord of Diepenheim, Schoonheten, etc, in the Province of Overyssel, Seneschal or Provost of Deventer (d 1668), and therefore not in line to the British honours, and Dr Miranda WHITEHEAD.

As far as I can make out, the dukes of Portland and George Bentinck are both descended from  Bernard, Baron Bentinck (van Diephenheim) and Anne van Bloemedale. The current Earl of Portland is descended through the counts Bentinck to the 1st Earl of Portland who was the son of Baron Bentinck (van Diephenheim) and Anne van Bloemedale . I'm not sure whether George is in remainder to the earldom, but don't see why not...

Just checked my copy of Burke's Peerage for the Bentinck Earldom of
Portland, which states George and his father Vivian Mark are lineal
descendants of Eusebius Borchard(born 14 May 1643-died 25 Oct 1710),
2nd son of the aforesaid Bernard,Baron Bentinck,Lord of
Diepenheim,Schoonheten,etc.,while the latter's 3rd son was Hans
William(born 20 July 1649-died 23 Nov 1709),lifelong friend/confidante
of William of Orange, and 1st Earl of Portland;so they are Dutch Barons/
Jonkheers but not in line to the English peerage.

Incidentally the current 12th Earl of Portland[well-known actor
Timothy Bentinck aka BBC Radio's 'The Archers' David Archer] also
holds the Holy Roman Empire peerage title of Count(Graf) created 1732
due to his direct/lineal ancestor William{youngest son of the
aforesaid 1st Earl}of Rhoon and Pendrecht,as well as of Terrington
St.Clements,Norfolk's services to the Holy Roman Emperor Charles
VI(ruled 1711-40).

Are the Bentinck Counts of the Holy Roman Empire, medizatised counts and therefore "illustrious highnesses"?

William Gustavus Frederic Bentinck, 2nd Graf Bentinck und Aldenburg (1762-1835), Sovereign Lord of Kniphausen and Varel. This small state was mediatised in 1807 and finally incorporated into Oldenburg in 1854.

In 1845 the German Diet recognised the right of the Counts Bentinck to the dignities and privileges of the mediatised Houses of Germany and are styled Illustrious Counts.
