Obituary in today's Telegraph:
Colonel Sir Freddy Pile, 3rd Bt, who has died aged 94, won a Military
Cross during the British advance through Germany in the last weeks of
the Second World War.
... . Frederick Devereux Pile was the son of Gen Sir Frederick Pile,
who commanded Britain's anti-aircraft defences in the war. Frederick,
always known as Freddy, was born at Wrexham on December 10 1915. The
baronetcy, in which he succeeded on the death of his father in 1976,
was created in 1900 for his grandfather, who had been Lord Mayor of
Dublin... . Sir Frederick Pile died on November 1. He married first,
in 1940, Pamela Henstock. She predeceased him, and he married
secondly, in 1984, Josephine Culverwell (née Cowper). She survives him
with two daughters of his first marriage and a stepdaughter; another
stepdaughter predeceased him. A nephew, Anthony John Devereux Pile,
born in 1946, succeeds in the baronetage. [presumably they mean
baronetcy]
