Also of the Davis family of Well Close was the actor (James Buckley) Stringer DAVIS (4 VI 1899 - 29 VIII 1973), whose wife (married 1945) was the actress Dame Margaret Taylor RUTHERFORD, DBE (11 V 1892 - 22 V 1972), niece of Sir John Williams BENN, 1st Bt (13 XI 1850 - 10 IV 1922), and first cousin of Sir John's son, William Wedgwood BENN, 1st Viscount Stansgate (10 V 1877 - 17 XI 1960).

Stringer Davis was a first cousin once removed upwards of the late Mrs Saunders Watson. He was a character actor, while his wife was a star. The couple appeared in more than twenty films together: in later years, Dame Margaret made it a condition of her contract that Mr Davis would play a part in any film in which she appeared.
