But Mr Vaughan could be the grandson maternally of a baronet, or the
great-grandson of a peer. I have an index of married names of peer's
daughters, but no list for baronet's daughters -

I'm afraid you're mistaken.Courtfield is the estate of the
bridegroom's parents so
they're very much landed gentry. You can find them in Burke's under
Vaughan of Courtfield.

He was additionally Archbishop of Westminster 1892-1903 and Lord of
the Manors of Ruardean and Welsh Bicknor. He
was succeeded by his brother, Col. Francis Baynham Vaughan
(1844-1922).

There you are Brooke, there's always a duke there somewhere - you just
have to look! :)

Thank you for a good laugh this morning. Even if the fiance is not a
descendant of this line, he still has some impressive earlier
connections (check the Stirnet site out). How is he related to
Richard Vaughan of the same family, who made news in some article or
the other a while back?

I'm unaware of the story you're referring to but Richard Vaughan is
one of
Patrick Vaughan's younger twin brothers (b 1948).
Ahh, thank you. He was described as a farmer in some story about Mill
Hill Missionaries and Courtfield. It was a long time back.
