From the Telegraph & Times of 23 April 2020: STEWART Earl of Galloway,  Lord Randolph Keith Stewart, of Palnackie. Peacefully, aged 91, on March 27th 2020, at Barlochan House Care Home, Palnackie, Castle Douglas. The 13th Earl of Galloway, widower of Lily, Countess Galloway and brother of the late Lady Antonia Dalrymple, of Newhailes. A private cremation will be held at Seafield Crematorium, Edinburgh, and a suitable memorial service will be held in due course when able to be organised.

He was s of 12th Earl of GALLOWAY (1892-1978) and Philippa Fendall (d 1974) d of Jacob WENDALL of New York. He m 1975 (as her 3rd husband) Lily May (d 1999) dau of Andrew MILLER of Duns, co Berwick. His 2nd cousin once removed succeeds him:

ANDREW CLYDE Stewart (b 1949) [14th] Earl of GALLOWAY. Has yet to establish his claim and appear on The Peerage Roll. He is son of Maj Alexander David STEWART MBE TD (1914-85, gt gs of 9th Earl of GALLOWAY (1800-73)) and (as her 2nd h) Daphne Marion (1924-2014) d of Sir Reginald BONSOR 2nd Bt (1879-1959) and Emily Gertrude FELLOWES (1851-82). He m 1st 1977 (div 2001) Sara M[argaret] (b 1952 reg Q3 Hants) d of Brig (James) Patrick O'H. POLLOCK MBE (s of James Huey Hamill POLLOCK CMG OBE (1893-1982) and Margaret Doris KEARNS OStJ (d 1962)) by his 1951 m (reg Q4 London) to (Helen) Jane S (b c1920) d of Capt Henry Mangles DENHAM CMG RN (1897-1993) of The Mill House, Bishops Waltham, Hants and Estelle Margaret Sibbald CURRIE (1898-1979), and has a son and two daus. He m 2nd 2008 Christine dau of Robert Winfried MERRICK & Elizabeth Woolf FOWLER of New Orleans, USA.

ALEXANDER PATRICK Stewart (b 1980) [styled Lord Garlies]. He m 2013 Philippa d of Robert BAILLIE and Mrs J W A Clugson, and has issue, three daus: [Hon] Emilia Rose b 2016 and twins [Hon] Jemima Isabel & [Hon] Sofia Beatrix b 2017.

[Lady] Tania Jane STEWART (b 1979), m 2008 Charles Roarie SCARISBRICK and has issue, two sons and a dau.

[Lady] Zoe Inez STEWART (b 1983) m 2013 her 7th cousin Jake (Jakie) James (b 1986) s of John Frederick Rufus WARREN (b 1956) and Lady Carolyn Penelope HERBERT (b 1962) d of 7th Earl of CARNAVON KCVO KBE (1924-2001) and Jean Margaret WALLOP MBE (1934-2019) scion of the PORTSMOUTH earls, and has issue, twin daus.

It is interesting to note that Lady Zoe Warren's husband Jake was related to the !3th Earl as his grandfather the 13th Earl of Carnarvon (1924-2001) was the first cousin of the 13th Earl of Galloway 1928-2020 in that their mothers were sisters.

Is the new earl still seated at Cumloden, which I believe is the family seat?

I read somewhere that the late earl's father left him out of his will because he had married an elder divorced woman against the wishes of the family. So, did the recently deceased earl ever live in Cumloden? Will the new Earl just inherit the title or is there still some land and wealth as well that comes with the title? Anybody knows??

According to Debretts 2011, the new earl is seated there. I would like to know how much land there is, if there is any?

I think that the 12th earl passed over everything to the new 14th earl just before he died thereby leaving his son very little.I doubt whether the 13th Earl ever lived at Cumloden as he spent a lot of time either in mental hospitals or sheltered housing..Cumloden is advertised as able to be rented as well as there being some cottages also for let.The new earl spends some time in Texas with his American 2nd Wife.

The 14th Earl is now entered on the Roll of the Peerage and also as Lord Garlies in the Peerage of Scotland and Baron Stewart of Garlies in the Peerage of Great Britain
