The couple are 4th cousins by virtue of their common descent from ROBERT SMITH 1833-94 (see below).They share a common ABEL SMITH ancestry with many members of the British peerage and gentry, which include: The QUEEN and the Duchess of GRAFTON (5th cousins twice removed) Sir Henry ABEL SMITH (3rd cousin thrice removed).
